The US Postal Service has announced it’s come up with a potential way to save itself 4 and a half billion dollars a year. They propose cutting their door-to-door delivery service.

Those already having mail delivered directly to them 6 days a week would be grandfathered into the existing way, but new housing developments would be outfitted with neighborhood cluster boxes.

A group of House Republicans is proposing that the best solution for the Postal Service’s financial problems is to cut door-to-door delivery entirely.

They say that going exclusively with curbside and clusters boxes could cut a significant part of the current 30 billion dollar annual mail delivery expense.

Not everybody agrees that this is the best solution to the problem.

Some point out that to-the-door delivery is of utmost importance to some of the Postal Service’s customers, including the elderly. It’s also not favorable for people living in places with extreme weather conditions.

Others are concerned that in implementing the plan, there won’t be enough consideration put into access and safety.

What are your thoughts on the Postal Service proposed plan?
