A magnitude 5.1 earthquake has struck south of the Algerian capital early Wednesday morning, injuring around 24 people and causing minor damage to buildings.

According to the National Geophysics centre, Hammam Melouane in Blida province was at the epicentre of the quake. The tremors could be felt 40kms away in Algiers.
