Since mid 90s "Zdob si Zdub” combines the hardcore and Moldovan folklore in a unique and elegant way, offering a spectacular live show… call them ethno-rockers, if you wish. Add some hip-hop, drum'n'bass, jungle, punk… an original music crossover, the meeting point of urban intensity and rural spirit. This charismatic band leaves deep traces in Moldova’s music history, however feeling at home in front of any audience it reaches.

The detailed biography is available here.

Although coming from a small, isolated and economically poor country from Eastern Europe, their creativity, dedication and diligence led to the building of an interesting Discography (details in Albums) and brought them on stages all over Europe.

Zdob si Zdub performed in more than 20 European countries, from small clubs to big festivals. Among the most important festivals are: in Hungary – Sziget; Denmark – Roskilde; Serbia – Exit; France – Festival Sin Fronteras; Belgium - Esperanzah!; Switzerland - Open Air Gampel; Germany - Krefelder Folkfest, Tanz&Folk Festival Rudolstadt, S.O.M.A.; Czech Republic - Rock For People, Colours Of Ostrava; Slovak Republic - Aerorock, OKEY Leto Fest, Hodocvas; Poland – Woodstock; Romania - Fete de la Musique, Cerbul de Aur, Stufstock, Peninsula; Holland – EuroSonic, Mundial; Russia – Maxidrom, Nashestvie, Krilya; and others.

Over the years, Zdob si Zdub opened for renowned bands like: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Emir Kusturica & No Smoking Orchestra, Korn, Biohazard, Rollins Band, Rage Against The Machine, Soulfly, The Garbage, Fun Lovin' Criminals and many others.

The music’s personality is also transmitted through the videos that accompany 17 songs. Most videos can be watched on Youtube.

In order to bring additional authenticity to its sound, Zdob si Zdub recorded songs, but also played live, with traditional singers as Vasile Dinu (MC Vasile, from Romania), Osoianu Sisters (Moldova), Trio Erdenko (Russia) and others.

The band was invited to participate in a number of projects, one of the major ones being Linz Europe Tour 2007-2009 - a European cultural project that gathered many artists from the Danubian countries. One of the main results of the project was a collaboration song between Hubert von Goisern, the leader of Linz Europe Tour, and Zdob si Zdub, but also the release of the last album "Ethnomecanica”, on the Lavine/Sony label.

October 2010 brings an entirely Russian album, called "Beloe Vino / Krasnoe Vino” (from Russian – "White Wine / Red Wine”). At different times and on different occasions Zdob si Zdub recorded songs that on just as many grounds were not released. Now they are all gathered under one cover. The album includes featurings, the Russian version of some own songs, and cover versions of folklore and others’ songs.

The band’s activity was appreciated by various TV channels (among them, MTV Europe), magazines, radio stations, thus enriching its collection of awards.

Their first Eurovision experience is Moldova’s debut in the Contest, dating back to 2005. At the 50th edition Zdob si Zdub represented their country with the song "Boonika Bate Doba”, placed 6th in the Final. In 2011, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova empowered them once again to rock the stage at the Eurovision Song Contest. Zdob si Zdub participated with the song "So Lucky”, which came 12th in the Final of the European contest. "So Lucky” is the first single from their newest album which was produced by Marc Elsner and recorded in Berlin in 2010. It is the result of the band’s and producer’s hard-work and creative quest. The exclusive new material, sung in English and Romanian, will be presented to the public in the near future. Zdob si Zdub will appear in a different light.

In January 2012, Zdob și Zdub released a new album in English under the German label Asphalt Tango Records, named Basta Mafia!

For the first time in its career, the band worked with a foreign producer, namely Marc Elsner. The new album is the result of a very long and difficult creative process since it was recorded both in Germany, at Headroom Studio and Chisinau, at Cuibul Studio. In February-March 2012 the band had played in the major cities of Austria, Hungary, Germany, Denmark, and Switzerland as part of the European tour.

There is also another version of the album, created especially for the Romanian speaking public. It was released in spring 2013 by MediaPro Music. The concert presentation of the new album in Romania took place on 12th April and was held in Hard Rock Cafe Bucharest.

On 21th May, in Eugene Ionesco Theatre Chisinau, Zdob și Zdub will present this version of the album to the public from Moldova, as part of a great show Moldovenii s-au născut – the title of the first single for which the band has already made a video.

Furthermore, the band is planning to release the album Basta Mafia in Russia and Ukraine.
