Some thefts are extraordinarily bold.

Three culprits reportedly made off with approximately $1.7 million in cash from a boat in Venice. An armored truck had just delivered three containers full of money, when the trio of armed bandits descended upon the courier ship.

They pulled up alongside the security guard in their own boat. One of the thieves held an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle to the guard’s head, while his criminal companion hopped onboard the courier ship and snatched two cases which were holding bank notes.

They left the third case behind – that one was housing less valuable coins. The cases were handed to a third accomplice who was waiting in the getaway boat.

The money was originally slated to be delivered to banks and post offices in the local area. The heist took place at dawn and amazingly it took the crooks around 30 seconds from start to finish to make off with the huge sum of cash.

Police tried to pursue the criminals’ boat, but the efforts proved to be futile.
