Buttercup the duck was born with one of his feet facing backwards. A man at his new home has come up with a solution – printing the duck a whole new foot.

Medical advancements are enabling even animals to overcome their disabilities.

Buttercup the duck was born with one of his feet facing backwards. The disability made it difficult and painful for him to walk.

His original caretaker tried to no avail to get the foot to take its proper position.

Buttercup’s backwards foot had to be amputated and Mike Garey at the Feathered Angels Waterfowl Sanctuary in Arlington, Tennessee had a brilliant idea.

He decided they’d just print him a new one. Typical 3D printing materials are too rigid for the job, so Garey reached out to NovaCopy who agreed to donate a 3D printed mold that could be used to cast a flexible foot.

Buttercup has become a bit of a media sensation and even has his own Facebook page.

His nearly 3 thousand fans log in to check on his progress, cheer him on, and watch him hang out with the sanctuary’s other waterfowl.
