Who’s drinking all the vodka, rum, gin, and whisky. Russians drink the most vodka in the world – about 2 billion liters of it in 2012.

According to a World Health Organization report released in 2011 some of the heaviest drinking is done in Russia. A recent report by the International Wine and Spirit Research shows they also drink the most vodka in the world – about 2 billion liters of it in 2012.

That’s 14 liters for every human within their borders regardless of age and gender, and not far under half of the total world consumption.

They don’t drink much else in the way of spirits, though. Their name isn’t high up on the top consumer lists of gin, whisky or rum.

The US manages to claim 2nd place in 4 categories – vodka, rum, scotch and gin. We are actually 1st in global tequila consumption, but Mexico has a higher per-person average.

India and Cuba have a similar relationship in the rum category. India drinks more in overall quantity, but Cuba dominates the individual drinks race.

France and Britain join the US as the globe’s big Scotch consumers, in both drinks at large and per capita.
