Lawsuits against restaurants usually involve dangerous items in food service. A Chicago woman, Mary T. McCarthy is suing over a bizarre incident that happened at a Culver’s restaurant in Coralville, Iowa.

On Dec. 27, 2011, McCarthy attempted to walk through the doors of the eatery, but instead, she collided with a panel of glass. She reportedly believed there was an opening next to the exit door.

She broke her nose and dislocated her jaw. McCarthy also encountered injuries to her neck, back and rotator cuff.

According to her lawyer, the incident could have been prevented if the restaurant properly marked the glass or placed a warning sign up indicating the space was not open.

McCarthy’s attorney went even further stating “I would say this is a very legitimate case, and we have a very good expert who is an architect who does commercial buildings, whose opinion is that this is a violation of standard of care for the design of commercial buildings.”

McCarthy is suing the company which owns and operates the Culver’s for the cost of her injuries and emotional trauma.
