Could that convenient hotel room service be a thing of the past?

The largest hotel in New York City is canceling their room service.

The New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan has almost 2 thousand rooms, and they have decided to do away with offering room service to their guests.

Instead they will have a cafeteria style self serve restaurant called Herb n’ Kitchen to replace the room service food delivery.

The New York Hilton Midtown isn’t the first upscale hotel to stop providing room service, and they might not be the last, with Hilton reportedly evaluating the availability of room service at their other hotel locations as well.

John Fox, senior vice president of PKF Consulting said: “I don't think anyone makes a profit on room service because of its labor costs. I'm sure all the big hotels will be looking at what Hilton is doing.”

Although it may be a trend in the hotel industry to phase out room service, other upscale hotels think that catering to the needs of their guests is the most important part of the hotel experience.

What do you think? Should hotels get rid of room service and offer more self-serve style services?
