Texas is getting bigger – not in land mass, but in population.

The state is home to 5 of the 10 fastest growing cities in America, based on a 2011 to 2012 US Census Bureau Report.

Houston had the second largest population boom in the country, the biggest being in New York.

Other cities in the Lone Star State welcoming loads of new neighbors are Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, and Fort Worth.

So what makes Texas the new “it” state?

In short, it’s the promise of the American dream – steady employment, a reasonably priced home, and reasonable cost of living.

Jobs of many types are in ample supply throughout the state, and Houston offers the country’s best pay to expense ratio.

The frosting on the Texan cake is a mix of low taxes and various types of cities and lifestyles to choose from.

If you like a place light on regulations, they’re known for that, too.

They also have extra state holidays, a couple of which come with potential days off. Those are Emancipation Day and Lyndon B. Johnson’s birthday.
