The new carbon layup also addresses a common problem in 100% carbon rims, that of poor braking. The Mercurio shape and layup provides increased durability and braking power in both wet and dry conditions.3T loaded the Mercurio 60 LTD Tubular Wheelset with features that improve the ease of maintenance, rigidity, and aerodynamics. For example, the Mercurio 60 LTD uses a unique spoke juncture at the rim and hub, inverting the spokes to place the nipples at the hub instead of the rim. On the lower rim section, the Mercurio 60 has what 3T calls spoke pockets that hold the threaded end of the spoke in place instead of drilling the rim. This eliminates excess nipple weight at the rim, which in turn minimizes rolling resistance and reaction time.
