A church in Venezuela is running out of bread and wine.
The import crisis in Venezuela has begun to impact religious practices.
The country’s Catholic Church reported that it’s running out of the wine used during Mass.
It seems the country only has one wine maker and its product is so scarce they’ve had to stop selling to the institution.
According to a Catholic official, the wine can’t be made because some of the imported necessities can’t be acquired. He also said that he’s not sure if they can afford product from other countries.
The consecrated bread used during Mass is also getting harder to come by. The baker can’t get enough flour – another imported product – so they’ll have no choice but to double their prices.
The shortage of food in Venezuela extends beyond the Catholic Church.
Other products in high demand and short supply include milk, sugar, and cooking oil.
The Central Bank of Venezuela ranks the scarcity index at 21 percent, meaning that 21 in 100 items aren’t available.
