Not every hero resonates with the public and becomes a household name... and neither does every villain. The monsters that overtook the box office in the 1980s all developed into iconic figures: Michael, Jason, and Freddy endure to this day, in spite (or because) of large shifts in look, tone, and the quality of the stories around them, but what is it that makes the monsters resonate across cultures and eras?
