As the son of a world-renowned concert pianist, John J Kirby was influenced by and introduced to the world of music from birth.
At the early age of three, John was practicing his piano
scales as well as singing songs. By the time John reached eight he had begun
extensive lessons on piano and guitar with the New England Conservatory of
Music. John practiced his love for music in the form of theory
and composition several hours daily. At seventeen, John furthered his studies in the theory of music by attending courses at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Ma.
John’s goal was to perfect and perform his own original works, which he had been creating throughout his teens, and he did just that. At eighteen,John formed the talented band, “Locust.” With his versatility and uniquely gifted styles in both lead guitar and piano, John was backed by strong melodic harmonious vocals. The band was welcomed immediately in just about every major club and function in the New England area. Locust performed gigs at The Frolics (Salisbury, MA), The Club Casino (Hampton Beach, NH), Mr. C’s Rock Palace (Boston), Paradise Rock Club (Boston),and Crane’s Castle (Ipswich, MA) for “The Hollywood Actor’s Guild”, where they received an overwhelming response, to name a few.
John’s style of music ranged widely from contemporary rock to blues and jazz, along with his classical background. The band signed recording and touring contracts from Boston to FL and across to California.
“Locust” faded due to interpersonal problems. John continued to perform with other Great musicians, such as Aerosmith,The Allman Brothers Band,The Jeff Healey Band, and one of his dearest departed friends, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
After his marriage to his wife, Lois,John decided to discontinue the touring aspect of his career. John did not stop composing and creating songs and ballads from his state of the art recording studio. He and his wife, Lois, reside in the beautiful, scenic woodlands of NH.
