Chicago Native Singer/Songwriter/Actress Sylvia Fedrick has been nominated to receive the Black Essence Magazine Awards for Singer Songwriter!

Sylvia has appeared in several stage productions including “And I Gave My Love To You“ directed by LaRinda Foster-Brown, “Strong Man“ directed by Pastor LaDell Jones & “Steppin Into Love” directed by Van Gray. Sylvia has performed at countless venues and churches across the Chicago & Indiana areas.

During the 1980s, House Music dominated mainstream music. Sylvia contributed as a backup singer for many local groups, including "Rare Form" and "Kajsa." Many of her nights were spent hitting the pavement in search of her next gig or participating in open mic night at the Cotton Club. While pursuing her next big break, Sylvia became side-tracked by a suitor and was married in 1991. In 1997, Sylvia's marriage ended in divorce and she was again on the music scene. James T. Meeks is the senior pastor of Chicago's Salem Baptist Church where Sylvia has been a member for the past 12 years. In 1998, she joined the choir under the direction of Minister Walter Owens who led Sylvia to Russia on a music ministry. Convinced that her life should be more than what it was and that her "day job" in the mortgage business was not enough, Sylvia prayed to God for a path back into the music industry. Her prayers were answered.

Sylvia is a radio host on 102.3FM “Inspirations With Tiajuana & Sylvia” on Sunday mornings 12midnight-1AM in Chicago & Indiana. Also, Sylvia is an Associate Producer for CAN-TV’s “Shaping Young Minds” to help educate, motivate and inspire the youth. Sylvia was featured on TCT‘s network “I’m Just Saying” hosted by Pastor Dan Willis, along with various local cable channels.

Sylvia's musical influences include Minnie Riperton, Deniece Williams, Stephanie Mills, Patrice Rushen, and Tramaine Hawkins.
