Manchester United loosened Arsenal’s grip on the Premier League title race with a thrilling 3–2 victory in north London on January 25, 2026. Interim manager Michael Carrick praised his team’s belief, spirit and confidence, describing the performance as “a bit of everything.” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted his side were “very, very disappointed” and said technical mistakes proved costly. The defeat was Arsenal’s first home loss of the season and leaves the title race wide open.

00:30It was up and down at times, you know, there's some really good things in the game for us, things we can work on, but the way the boys were, the belief, the confidence, the kind of spirit, everything that came together made me really proud of it.
00:41I thought we did enough in the game to then grow into the game and, you know, the goals were fantastic goals and some of the football was good and we looked dangerous at certain times, other times we had to defend, but it was just a performance with a bit of everything really.
00:55Yeah, the boys have been fantastic, you know, as I said, lasting two weeks together to put things in place and to try to do the things we've asked and, as I said, there's still layers that we want to get to and we want to improve,
01:08but in terms of kind of what it's taken to win these two games, they've done great.
01:13Listen, I'm not getting carried away, we've got some big games, bigger games coming up because every next game is the bigger game, so we're not getting carried away, you know, we've got really important things coming up that we need to kind of keep improving with,
01:28so two massive games, there's a lot of emotion and a lot of energy and a lot of confidence that you can take from that, but be humble and understand how we've got these results is really important moving forward.
01:43Yeah, very, very disappointed, obviously, but it's a moment, especially after losing and the joy and everything that those players are giving us and me in particular to take myself responsibility and be very close to them because it's exactly what they deserve.
02:08We were absolutely brilliant in Milan and today we weren't that good, I don't know if it was mental because how much they played, but because we were poor, especially technically in certain aspects of the game,
02:20than against a team that when you make those mistakes, they can punish you big time and that was the difference.
02:25Doing what we have to do and doing what we're doing for seven months, exactly that and the position that we are still today, even we have lost, I think it's the first time sitting here this season at home and we lost again, you know,
02:36so it's part of the journey to winning and if not nobody will lose football matches, it's how we react to that and I am very convinced because I know those players at Residum and how much we want it that we're going to react immediately.
