Mary, Townsend's servant, has discovered she is pregnant by Daniel and tries to eat a kind of wild berry to cause an abortion. The berries make her ill and she is nursed back to health by Townsend and his doctor who recognizes her signs of pregnancy. Townsend tells her that she can stay at his home and have her baby. Conor, still on the lam from British soldiers after his escape finds Sean's wife and children and joins them as they emigrate to America on an assisted passage scheme, which Townsend creates false documents to facilitate. Daniel arrives the next day determined to kill Townsend. With Mary throwing herself in front of her master, Daniel still manages to shoot and kill him. He is then captured and executed. Starring: Joe Mcgann, Paul Mcgann, Mark Mcgann, Stephen Mcgann, Michael Kitchen.

00:30Lord, have mercy on the soul of this poor man.
00:49His son was to seek refuge from the miseries of this world.
00:53But he died in Christ, and it is written that whoever believes in the Son will have everlasting life.
00:59May you live in peace this day, James Freeman.
01:04May your home be with God and Zion.
01:08Mary, the mother of God, with Joseph.
01:11And with all the angels and saints. Amen.
01:15When I go, you should pull the door behind me. Answer it to nobody.

03:52You suck through.
03:54Come on.
03:55So this is her Lordship lived.
03:56So this is how his lordship lived?
04:06All paid for after all pockets.
04:08Talia, I have to tell you, Ishan and Khan...
04:29I know.
04:32And your father?
04:34I've been told.
04:42There's no fire to dry your clothes.
04:45I can't stay.
04:50Yes, you can.
05:04Can you hear me?
05:17I don't know.
05:26I don't know.
05:30It's the rape of Lucretia.
05:55Lucretia was a nobleman's wife.
05:56Sixtus, the son of the tyrant Tarquin the Proud, came to her while she was alone in
06:04a chamber.
06:05He threatened that unless she gave herself to him, he'd kill her, then cut the throat
06:12of a slave and lay the body beside hers, making it appear that she'd been caught in adultery
06:18with a servant.
06:20So she let him have his way with her.
06:24Just afterwards, after informing her father and husband Billetta, she killed herself.
06:33There, you see, she has a veil to draw her across her feet to hide his shame.
06:42Why do you not hide your shame, Mary?
06:47My shame?
06:49Did you not think to kill yourself?
06:51What?
06:52When the agent had his way with you.
06:55What are you talking about?
06:59I see no blood in these sheets.
07:01Shouldn't there be blood the first time?
07:04Am I not right?
07:05Should you not bleed the first time?
07:07Is that not right?
07:09Nothing is real for you.
07:10It's all stories and poems and songs.
07:16Is this real enough for you?
07:18Is it?
07:19I loved you and you used me.
07:22It's Townsend that's used you.
07:27Mary, unlock the door for me tonight and I will kill your lover as he sleeps.
07:32Oh, come on.
07:33Come on.
07:34Come on.
07:40You're through, Daniel.
08:02You're through, Daniel.
08:21Give that back.
08:24I don't know.
08:54I'm still waiting to be driven out of here with a scourge of ropes.
08:59It seems instead that Christ comes to me to do business.
09:03Do not take his name in vain.
09:07Where'll I find a buyer?
09:09You'll find one.
09:10For things that belong to the church.
09:14I'm a businessman, father, not a receiver of stolen goods.
09:19I want these in exchange.
09:24I have no candles, no bacon, no eggs, no cheese.
09:29The other items I can provide.
09:32And we?
09:34Provide.
09:34Conor Phelan, Sean Phelan, I have heard the evidence against you and found you guilty as charged.
09:58It now falls to me to pass sentence.
10:02If I choose to be lenient, it is because I was witness to the events of that day.
10:08And know that you have already suffered the loss of your home and your father.
10:13You will walk the treadmill in Lifford Jail for six months.
10:19Take me away.
10:25Be strong, Maeve.
10:29Be strong.
10:32Phelan, you were given notice to quit the estate.
10:35You must go and go now.
10:36You don't go freely.
10:37You'll be porcibly removed.
10:39Get your hands up, Maeve.
10:46Damn your heart.
10:47Damn your heart.
10:49Damn your heart.
10:50Damn your heart.
10:51Damn your heart.
11:09What do you want?
11:11God bless you, Father.
11:13We've come to hear Mass.
11:15There'll be no Mass. Go home.
11:19Go home!
11:23And board yourselves in.
11:27Die in silence.
11:33Do you want to miss?
11:39Go home.
11:49She's my sister.
11:51Let me see her.
11:53Please, let me see her.
12:09Come in.
12:21I wish to speak with you, sir.
12:23What is it?
12:25My sister's alone now with the children.
12:27She's no home, no work.
12:29She's a good worker, sir.
12:31She can cook and clean.
12:35Could she not come here, sir?
12:37I cannot turn a family out only to take them into my own home.
12:41You turn me out only to take me into your home.
12:43You're not a feeling, Mary.
12:45She could stay in an outhouse.
12:47My photos, I beg you.
12:49Do not do that.
12:55I cannot take her in.
13:01Please sit down.
13:03I am no.
13:05No.
13:06I've worked for my own home.

13:31No.
13:32A free passage?
13:37There are now more than a thousand paupers in the poorhouse.
13:43The smallest sum they can possibly cost is £5 per head per annum.
13:47Therefore, the poor rates amount to at least £5,000 each year, this year, next year and
13:53probably the year after.
13:56Even if every man, woman and child, now in the poorhouse or working on the road, accepts
14:02free passage to America, the cost will still not exceed £5,000, it is cheaper for Lord
14:11Hawkesborough to provide free passage to America for these people than to keep them in the poorhouse.
14:19It will free the estate from pauperism and help these people to a new and better life.
14:26If your sister desires to go and applies to me, I will see that she is accommodated.
14:36My sister goes to America, where her husband rots in prison.
14:42If her husband applies to me when he has finished his sentence, I will arrange free passage for
14:48him too.
14:49You ask for help?
14:51This is all I can offer.
14:56Can I speak with her, sir?
15:08I've never been more than 20 miles from Galready.
15:13I've never been on the sea.
15:17Not even in a fishing car.
15:20I don't want you to go.
15:23God knows I don't want you to go.
15:27But I had to tell you.
15:32Would he get me a ticket to work on the road?
15:35If you asked him?
15:37It's crippling work, maybe.
15:39Ask him for me.
15:43I will walk on the road.
15:44I will go to the mirror of caves.
15:50I've got to be somewhere Sian can find me.
16:02I will walk on the road.
16:13Look at him.
16:17He iselyn.
16:23And he will walk on the road.
16:26I will walk on the road.
16:28Hold up, hold up.
16:53Hold up.
16:58Oh, they were right.
17:01It's the stick fighter.
17:04What does he mean, stick fighter?
17:06I'm the one who did that to his face.
17:10Leave him, Pete!
17:11Connor!
17:12Leave him, what?
17:13You heard him, you bastard!
17:15Leave him, Pete!
17:17Oh, get down.
17:19Well now, ho-boy.
17:21Let's see how good you are with a saber.
17:23Careful, Connor!
17:26No, Connor!
17:28Connor, no!
17:29Come on, man.
17:31Let's see what you're doing.
17:34Come on, big fella.
17:35Yeah, sure!
17:37Stick it.
17:41Come on!
17:421, 1, 1!
17:441!
17:451, 1, 1, 1!
17:501, 2, 1!
17:521, 2, 1!
17:561, 2, 2, 1!
17:57Let's go.
18:27Let's go all the way down onto them rocks.
18:29Find the body before it washes away.
18:31We'll pick you up here on the way back from Clifford.
18:34It's not the hell yet.
18:57Let's go.
19:25Ah.
19:27Have you seen this?
19:29The London Bloody Times has published our report,
19:33and the leader makes some very interesting reading.
19:36The report by Dr. Davis and Father Phelan is certainly a cri de clair,
19:41both eloquent and impassioned, and almost wholly mendacious.
19:46Not a year passes, but the Irish complain of starvation.
19:50It is our opinion that they have cried wolf once too often.
19:54Once too often, the Irish wolf has bitten the hand at feet.
20:00Well, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I should not have come here.
20:10No, no, no, no. You're always welcome.
20:24What news, O'Connor?
20:26I called off the search this morning.
20:28Said his body must have been rushed out to sea.
20:32The waters have come into my soul.
20:38I sink deep in my eye where there is no standing.
20:44I cannot say much.
20:50Why can you not say it?
20:54I do not believe the great God of heaven will come upon this altar
21:00I call them.
21:02My heart is full of vengeance.
21:08I pray that I may wash my feet in the blood of my enemies.
21:30Aik! Aik! Aik! Aik! Aik! Aik! Aik!
21:36Oh, it's me.
22:06It's Connor.
22:36Mary, are you unwell?
22:43I'm a little tired as all, sir.
22:45I'm a little tired.
23:14Tell your mummy I'll go to Lifford.
23:30I'll tell your daddy.
23:33Connor is safe.
23:35And tell Connor from me, it's a miracle.
23:38Do you understand?
23:38A miracle.
23:39Aye.
23:40Goodbye.
24:00Her pulse is very fast.
24:02She's sweating.
24:05Her temperature's not raised.
24:19What is it?
24:21She's eaten something.
24:22She's eaten something.
24:24She's no need to scavenge in the woods.
24:27Deliberately eaten something.
24:29To harm herself or the baby.
24:33I'll return in the morning.
24:34I'll return in the morning.
24:35I'll return to her.
24:42I'll return to her.
24:47I'll return to her.
24:51Listen, you will stay here, you will be safe here, and no harm will come to you or your
25:19life.
25:49Don't tell me about it.
25:55Joseph, stop it.
26:02Come on.
26:13Joseph! What's wrong?
26:15Don't touch her.
26:17What is it?
26:18Joseph! Joseph!
26:21Don't touch him, Maybin!
26:23What is it?
26:25God. God.
26:33Father.
26:48Father.
26:54Holy shit.
27:00Father.
27:03Father.

29:15and I nursed you.
29:19Forgive me.
29:23Forgive me for letting you die.

44:34How do I know it's my child?
44:54Because it couldn't be anyone else.
44:57Why would I lie to you?
44:59It won't make me say I'm wrong.
45:07That I've been wrong to do what I've done.
45:10But you are wrong.
45:13No.
45:16O'Connell is wrong.
45:20Human blood is no cement for the Temple of Liberty.
45:23You get nothing in this life without a struggle.
45:30Without a fight.
45:33And a bloody one at that.
45:36What have you achieved by fighting?
45:41All of Father Liam's Beatitudes are a lie.
45:47Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
45:49Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
45:58Lies to keep us meek and mild and in our place.
46:02Just words to give us hope.
46:05Hope?
46:07What can a son of yours hope for?
46:11A son of ours.
46:12What can a son of ours hope for?
46:22To have a home.
46:25Not to hunger.
46:28To be loved.
46:35You would not think that was too much to ask for, would you?
46:38Do you not know how much you're loved, Daniel?
46:49By your brothers?
46:52By me?
46:56Let Father Liam give you absolution, Daniel.
47:02Open up your heart again.
47:05Daniel.
47:06Daniel.
47:08Daniel.
48:38In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Amen.
