David Longhorn

One of the leading ghost story writers of the early 20th century, Blackwood is not so well known now. But in his day he was quite the celebrity, considered not only a significant writer but also a traveller, mountaineer, and raconteur. He was also a member of the famous mystical group, the Esoteric Order of the Golden Dawn. Born in 1869 to wealthy but religiously narrow-minded family, he escaped their influence as soon as he could and spent time in Canada, the USA, and various parts of Europe. He died in 1951, living long enough to become a broadcaster on BBC TV as well as radio.
