00:00Laminar is an indie game that focuses on delivering a gripping story and immersive
00:10gameplay. The entire game is played through a spaceship interface, the Terminal. The Terminal
00:18will allow you to control the spaceship, communicate with strangers, solve puzzles and analyze media.
00:25Here's an example of how it all works together. On the left we have the communications panel. In this
00:33chapter of the story we're chatting with a friend and we decide to get out of our current location.
00:39So a game module pops up on the terminal. We now control the spaceship, escaping from the
00:45sentinels that are chasing us. We dodge the sentinels but we reach a locked gate. It has
00:51strange symbols. This is a puzzle. We must align the symbols in order to open it.
00:58As you venture deeper into this journey you will encounter more narrative and visual riddles.
01:04Like this extraction of a mutated embryo from a clandestine laboratory. It's cryptic at
01:10first but you remember a document with a similar layout. That's the clue you needed to move
01:15forward. This is how the different modules of the terminal work together to deliver both story and
01:22gameplay. Unraveling the eldritch mystery of what happened to you and your people. You play as Harper
01:30Costa, a prisoner of war. After years of isolated captivity an opportunity for freedom arises. And you
01:38seize it. Now confined aboard a stolen space capsule you set out on a journey to return home or what remains of it.
01:49Here are some tests and references for what other game mechanics could look like.
01:57The game is inspired by retro futuristic graphic design, classic sci-fi media, the strangeness of the cosmos and
02:05metaphysical horror, as well as popular games with similar focus on interface, narrative and puzzle design.
