00:00...first Formula 3 podium today.
00:02They are on their formation lap now, Piers Dreyer, as they make their way around this circuit.
00:08What's going to be the biggest challenges of this Imola circuit?
00:10It's bumpy around here, so that's one thing the drivers have to contend with.
00:14We've seen a fair few drivers taking through the gravel and over the curbs through practice and qualifying already this weekend.
00:22You can't get away with that in the race.
00:24If you drift, dip a wheel through the gravel, you're really going to struggle and probably fall backwards through the race.
00:29And also, DRS down towards the Tamrava corners is the main overtaking opportunity.
00:35Well, we see them coming around Tosa now.
00:38It's the formation lap. We are building up to the sprint race.
00:42And whilst we do that, let's hear from our top three, who we caught up with after qualifying yesterday, starting with third place, Maribor.
00:52We're trying to learn maximum for the Sunday race, that it's a bit longer.
00:57But for sure, the main objective is to go for the win.
01:00And normally, as I said, the race pace is looking super strong, so I will try to show it and to enjoy it.
01:09Looking at the end result, I think it's a bit disappointing, especially where we started the session, being quite quick at the beginning.
01:16It looks a bit like the working window of the car is quite narrow.
01:22Yeah, so the more you get to the limit, the more difficult it gets, of course.
01:27Yeah, I'm going from the front row into the race, so for sure, my aim is to win the race.
01:34Yeah, obviously, Imola is a difficult track to overtake.
01:38Seen from last year, there was a few safety cars, so I'm looking forward for that, but also head down.
01:44And I need to just do my job, trying to focus, good start, good first lap, and then good pace from there.
01:49And then, if there's a safety car, if there's VSC or whatever, just maintain my head down and just push every single lap.
01:56Bruno Del Pino said it himself from Piers, it's a difficult track to overtake. This will be their only DRS.
02:01Yes, the DRS out of the last corner will open somewhere around the start-finish line, and then it takes you down towards Tamburello.
02:09We saw most overtake moves be made on the outside, actually, into Tamburello, as the DRS pass around there was favoured.
02:16But it's quite hard to overtake, as Del Pino said, especially if you're in that DRS train.
02:21Although, we did see last year, if you dropped off the back of the car in front and lost DRS, you were very much vulnerable,
02:27and DRS was pretty powerful down this train, when you weren't in the train.
02:31Remains to be seen exactly how that will play out this year with the new Dallara Formula 3 cars this year,
02:36so slightly different to last year, but I imagine it's going to be somewhat similar.
02:41We saw opportunist moves being made around the rest of the circuit, but normally higher-risk moves.
02:46Callum Voisin, who's there in the championship, starts further down the order.
02:49He didn't finish after contact down at Toza, so you'll have to choose your moves wisely, that is for sure.
02:55It's a narrow circuit around here.
02:57A race where staying out of trouble could really reward you.
03:00Okay, this is Formula 3, this is Round 3, this is the sprint race.
03:05We have reversed the top 12 from qualifying, which puts Bruno Del Pino on pole position alongside Tim Tramnitz.
03:11Points will go to the top 10 on the grid.
03:1310 points for the winner, down to 1 point for 10th place.
03:16We will give a point for the driver who scores the fastest lap.
03:20It's going to be 18 laps or 40 minutes, whichever comes first.
03:24They have the medium tyres on their car.
03:27We will activate DRS after one lap of racing down this start-finish straight towards Turn 1.
03:34We wait for Tosanopole and Intropuvozac to come into position.
03:38Then that green flag will go at the back and we will be away and racing for Round 3 of Formula 3.
03:45Here we wait for the lights. Drivers are ready.
03:48To the left of screen is Tim Tramnitz.
03:50To the right is MP Motorsport teammate Bruno Del Pino.
03:54And we are go for the sprint race here at Imola.
03:57Solid start for Bruno Del Pino.
03:59He will lead us down towards Tamburello for the first time.
04:03Tim Tramnitz slotted in behind.
04:05And he's going to immediately challenge his teammate on the brakes in towards Tamburello.
04:10Trying to go down the inside, but a stern defence from the Spaniard.
04:13And Del Pino will lead us down to the Villeneuve chicane in third place in the white Campos.
04:18That is Marie Boyer and he has the Prema racing cars in behind him.
04:24He's got one of the Red Bull Juniors slotted right in behind, which is Nikola Solov.
04:28Then comes the Premas of Noel Leon and Ugo Ugochukwu.
04:31And straight away, we've got one of the ARTs going wide, which is the number 7 of Lorenz van Hoopen.
04:37But out of Tosa, it looks like everyone is away safely, Piers Bryant.
04:41Pretty clean start, actually, from all 30 drivers on the grid.
04:44Liner stern at the front of the field.
04:45The two MPs pulling an early gap as they slotted in after Turn 1 and 2.
04:50But Solov's right in there.
04:51He's looking to try and take that record-breaking win.
04:54He'll be strong later in the race.
04:55Although the MPs have looked very, very solid, especially on the slightly longer runs this weekend so far.
05:01Yellow flag is out.
05:03So someone has hit some trouble somewhere.
05:05But up through Vaniante Alta and they fire their way over those kerbs.
05:10A great sight in Formula 3.
05:12And now we're going to come down to the challenge.
05:14That is the Ravazza section.
05:16Nikola Solov under some pressure there in 4th place.
05:19He's got Noel Leon behind him, who took the chequered flag first here last year.
05:24So do watch out for him.
05:25Rafa Kamara, let's see if he can have anything.
05:28We've got the number 23 of Callum Boyes in there, almost picking up some front wing damage.
05:33He was trying a very ambitious move there.
05:35I want to think that was Nikola Lacorte, possibly, as we head down the start-finish straight.
05:40Let's jump on board with the American, Ugo Ugochukwu.
05:43Trying to go by his teammate, Noel Leon.
05:45Who is going to emerge in the lead of all of this?
05:48It's Ugochukwu versus Leon.
05:50And for now, Leon ahead, Piers.
05:52Yeah, we're seeing the DRS not open this first time, but it'll be open next time.
05:56They're using the slipstream to get alongside, but couldn't get that move done.
05:59Very close to Prema teammates.
06:02They've struggled this year so far, Prema, but looked much better this weekend.
06:07Yeah, you can see at the top of the screen, DRS will be enabled next time by over the start-finish line.
06:12At the front of the field, it's been a great second and third sector, the first lap for Del Pino.
06:17He's nearly extended his gap beyond DRS.
06:20We see Boyes, is that Sharp fighting?
06:22That is.
06:23That is Sharp fighting with the...
06:25That's Ugochukwu.
06:26Ugochukwu.
06:27Yeah, so Ugochukwu there and Sharp fighting away with each other.
06:32Great battling going on between the American of Ugochukwu and Sharp
06:37as they head up towards the Variante Alta chicane.
06:41It's Del Pino ahead of Tramnitz.
06:44Over the chicane we go.
06:46Here we go on board with Ugo, Ugochukwu.
06:48Down towards Rivazza.
06:50We ride on board with the American now.
06:52Noel Leon is just ahead of him.
06:54You have to be within one second to get DRS.
06:56And Ugochukwu well within that now.
06:59So is Tim Tramnitz out ahead.
07:01So Del Pino could be coming under threat.
07:03This is the DRS zone we are going to pick out.
07:05Louis Sharp though threatening to challenge Ugochukwu down this start-finish straight.
07:11Here we go down the start-finish straight now.
07:13Are we about to see a change here?
07:15And Noel Leon could be coming under pressure in that red and white Prima.
07:18His teammate right behind him.
07:20And there goes Ugochukwu.
07:21Here comes for the lead though Tim Tramnitz.
07:23And he hits the front of this Formula 3 sprint race at Imola.
07:27Yeah Tramnitz making use of DRS.
07:29Seeing a similar pattern that we saw last year.
07:31The drivers that don't have DRS.
07:33Very much vulnerable to the drivers behind them within one second.
07:36As we've got side-by-side background.
07:38That's Sharp who's made his way past Ugochukwu.
07:40And Leon also passed on Belinsky.
07:43Yeah so Leon's gone backwards two spots there.
07:45So he's lost places to both Sharp and to Ugochukwu as well.
07:50Now he's under threat from Roman Belinsky.
07:53So a bad lap there.
07:54That's the power of DRS.
07:56Down that start-finish straight.
07:58We may only have one DRS section.
08:00But you can see how powerful it is.
08:02Let's watch this move.
08:03Ugochukwu right in the slipstream of his teammate ahead here.
08:06Uses DRS.
08:07Goes to the outside as we see the often favoured move.
08:09That's because the drivers defend the inside.
08:11Or fighting with the car through the middle of the Tamburello chicane.
08:15But gets the move done.
08:16And that poor exit for Leon was what allowed Belinsky through.
08:20And Sharp actually managed to get through two places for the price of one there.
08:23Yeah Louis Sharp up into P5.
08:25Yet to be in the points this season.
08:26But is he about to change that today?
08:28The road and motorsport driver Del Pino under big pressure here.
08:32He's dropped seven tenths back from Tramlitz.
08:34And Mari Boyer senses a move is coming.
08:38Make a drop mate. Come on.
08:42Impressive running from Sharp so far.
08:43As I don't believe he's actually raced at this circuit before in a single seater.
08:46So he's had a first inaugural weekend at the Imola circuit.
08:50He hasn't.
08:51Here we go down the start-finish straight.
08:52And he has just got to stay with his teammate now.
08:55Be within that one second.
08:58And Del Pino settling into this race nicely.
09:03What's going to be going through his mind now Piers?
09:05He's lost the lead.
09:06But if he can stay within a second of Tramlitz.
09:08He's got a good chance of a podium there.
09:10Certainly so.
09:11And also last year.
09:12Don't forget that we saw a bit of front right draining.
09:14About two thirds of the way through this sprint race.
09:16From about that 12 onwards.
09:18Track temperatures a little bit lower than they were last year.
09:20We're looking at early 30s at this early stage.
09:23First thing on Saturday morning.
09:24But those drivers that are very quick at this early stage.
09:27I'm looking at the likes of Sharp and the Primers.
09:31They might struggle towards the later stages.
09:33That remains to be seen.
09:34Let's have a look at the start once again.
09:36Actually a very good launch off the line from Boyer.
09:39But he decided to tuck in and get the slipstream from the two MP cars ahead.
09:44Then we have the two roading cars.
09:45The Bolinski and Sharp going side by side in the grey and black cars.
09:49Further back.
09:50Two by twos for the middle and back of the field.
09:52Everyone did very well to get through that first section.
09:55Relatively unscathed.
09:57We ride on board James Wharton.
09:58He's had a tricky weekend so far.
10:00Looking around the outside of the first part of Villeneuve.
10:03Still side by side with the car on the left.
10:05That was one of the VARs that dipped a wheel in the gravel.
10:08That was the 7 of...
10:10That's alongside Hoopland.
10:12So Hoopland fell away a little bit in the early stages.
10:15He had a tricky weekend.
10:16Was it Hoopland that went wide again?
10:18That's Dominguez.
10:25That was that yellow flag that we saw early on.
10:27But he must have got going again because it was only short-lived.
10:30He's now 30 seconds off the leaders.
10:32We cut back to this battle at the front of the field as the two MP cars do battle for the lead.
10:36Well, this is a second year driver in Tramlitz versus a rookie in Del Pino.
10:41But it certainly doesn't look like that.
10:43Bruno Del Pino.
10:44He did very well in the Euro Cup 3 Championship last year.
10:48Fighting away with Red Bull Junior.
10:50Tim Tramlitz.
10:52Mary Boyer right in behind.
10:54Countryman to Spaniard Bruno Del Pino.
10:57Then we've got Nicolas Solom in behind.
10:59The two Campos Racing drivers queuing in behind.
11:02We have one of the AIX cars next.
11:05That's Nicola Maranangeli who has pulled over to the side.
11:09It looks like the wheel has just fallen off.
11:11You can see the wheel nut on the white line at the foreground of the shot there.
11:14His right rear wheel sitting on the grass on the side of the circuit.
11:18And then Maranangeli stranded on the grass.
11:21Unfortunately for Maranangeli, we never like to see a race end like that.
11:26And also I'm sure there'll be some sort of investigation.
11:28Generally we don't like to see loose wheels.
11:30So Nicola Maranangeli has pulled off at the exit of Toza.
11:34And that will neutralise the race at this stage.
11:39And the safety car comes out.
11:43That'll close everyone up.
11:45Now as we come down through Variante Alton now.
11:48One thing to note when we do go racing once again.
11:51There's been a race director's virtual safety car.
11:55So actually what I was about to say won't apply.
11:57But I've started so I'll finish.
11:59If we do end up getting a full safety car at any point.
12:01There's a 100m board on the way down to Ravazza 1.
12:05Which is that first of the two left handers in the final sector.
12:08The drivers must stop weaving after that board.
12:12It must be single file.
12:13No weaving from there for safety reasons.
12:15But for now it'll be a virtual safety car.
12:17So that won't play a part.
12:19As everyone is just equidistant at a much lower racing speed.
12:22Will this give us a reason why Maranangeli potentially lost that wheel?
12:29He's either already started to feel something's not quite right.
12:33Or that trip through the gravel has dislodged something.
12:36It's hard to tell at this angle.
12:38It looks like that wheel was attached at that stage.
12:40And then made a bid for freedom on the exit Tosa.
12:45Well he's gone through the gravel at some speed there.
12:48And possibly that's caused something to go wrong.
12:53The wheel nut then came off the car.
12:56There we go.
12:57You can see the wheel nut running across the circuit.
12:59That was hit by one of the other drivers actually.
13:01So the wheel nut was on circuit.
13:03Hard to say whether that was a cause and effect of the gravel.
13:07A cause or effect.
13:09I'm sure we'll hear about that maybe later on.
13:12But the marshals looks like it might be a full safety car.
13:18Yes, safety car is on circuit.
13:19It is a full safety car.
13:20And that will allow the marshals and team to collect all of the errant parts of the AIX car.
13:26Well your point then.
13:28What we were talking about.
13:29And we were talking about this before the race.
13:31Got to be careful going down to Rivazza on the restart.
13:35So Tim Tramnitz will lead us round it.
13:38Let's go through the top ten.
13:39Because those are the drivers that are going to score points.
13:41It's been a very frantic start to the race.
13:44Tim Tramnitz taking the lead away from his teammate Bruno Del Pino.
13:49Going into Tamburello.
13:51But since then, Del Pino has been applying the pressure to him.
13:55Marou Boia, Nicolas Solon and Louis Sharp.
13:58All very much a part of that lead battle.
14:01You can say any one of those five before that safety car came out could have won that race.
14:05However, what this has done is Ugo Chukwu and Noel Leon have now been able to bridge the gap to the top five.
14:12Because they had just slightly lost touch with him.
14:15So this is going to make that very interesting.
14:18Roman Belinsky and of course the rest of the field.
14:20Roman Belinsky in eighth place in the points so far.
14:23Tuka Tapanen who set up nicely on the grid for tomorrow.
14:26And then we have Noah Stromstedt.
14:28We cannot forget of course Rafa Kamara.
14:30He's yet to score in a sprint race.
14:32But he's just sat there in twelfth.
14:34He's yet to make his impact on this race.
14:36Will we now see him start to do that?
14:38James Wharton is going well up four places.
14:41We can see our winners and losers in terms of positions gained and lost down the left-hand side.
14:46James Wharton who needs to start getting some points.
14:49He's getting up there in terms of positions.
14:52Four gained so far.
14:54Full safety car is out to retrieve the wheel and the car of Nicola Marangeli.
15:00But Tim Tramlitz will now start to be thinking about that restart.
15:04He'll already be planning how he's going to do it.
15:06He knows his teammate is right behind him as the marshals collect that stray wheel nut.
15:10So hopefully we'll get going at the end of this lap.
15:13But he'll have to plan it.
15:14We saw last year there was Leon that actually got a penalty for weaving after that 100-meter board.
15:21Choosing when to go is crucial.
15:23If you go too early, you might catch the safety car.
15:26And that then is dangerous.
15:28It will become a penalty.
15:29You go too late and it gives everyone a chance to be right underneath your rear wing
15:33so that you'll be vulnerable down to turn number one.
15:36The first time we go green won't be DRS.
15:38That will probably be enabled the second time past the pits.
15:42But if you're leading this, what is now a 29-car grid,
15:47you are the only one who doesn't have the advantage of a slipstream.
15:50So everyone's going to be hunting you.
15:52But it is also the best track position in terms of positioning.
15:56You can control the race.
15:57Tramlitz will be happy that he's managed to take the lead.
15:59He currently sits second in the standings.
16:02And when his teammate, Rafael Camargo, took pole yesterday and is down in 12th place,
16:07it's a good position for now.
16:08What we did see, though, is Noel Leon
16:11really got mugged down to the first corner in terms of losing that DRS.
16:15And he lost two places to Schaaf in Rigatoucou.
16:18So he's got to make sure he takes advantage of that first lap
16:23when we don't have DRS just to try and bridge a gap
16:26because Noel Leon losing two places on that first lap.
16:30Louis Schaaf, got to say, going really well there.
16:33Del Pino, likewise, he's up from EuroCup 3.
16:35Schaaf is a GB3 champion as well.
16:38So highly ranked coming into this season, winning that GB3 title.
16:43Two rookies right up there in the top ten.
16:47Noah Stromstedt, likewise, he was rookie champion in Freca last year.
16:51Tuukka Tafanen stepping up from that championship as well
16:54where he was on the championship podium.
16:57So we've got some really talented rookies within that top ten.
17:00There's a lot of talent in this grid.
17:02Some new drivers, some returning drivers.
17:04Solov sort of sitting there just biding his time at the moment.
17:08He's an experienced driver in this F3 championship
17:11and he will be trying to bridge that gap into the podium
17:16and if at all possible get that, as you mentioned, record-breaking win.
17:19We're going to be one more time by the safety car as that
17:22Marangeli car is still being retrieved.
17:25Let's have a look in a bit more detail.
17:26So this was the initial thing that we saw.
17:29Actually, that wheel looks loose already.
17:31I saw it just wobble slightly on the rim as he went into there.
17:36I wonder if he's made contact with something.
17:38The thing is, it's very unlikely that that would undo your wheel.
17:42Normally, if you have contact and the wheel comes off,
17:46there's some other damage, but the wheel not being completely loose by that.
17:51I mean, it's hard to say, but normally that's just a slight finger trouble, I think.
17:58We'll find out, I'm sure.
17:59We will get news from the team after they've done their investigations
18:03as to what's happened for now.
18:04All we do know is Nicola Marangeli is sadly out of the race.
18:07A home weekend for him.
18:09Really unfortunate, but the fans still have the likes of
18:13Brando Badawer to cheer on and Nicola Lacorte.
18:17You mentioned earlier in the race that Callum Boyson,
18:21he had a DNF here last year, came into contact down at Tozer
18:27and that ended his race.
18:28He had poor qualifying.
18:29He was arguably the fastest of the three roading drivers in practice
18:33in the first run in qualifying, but then had a spin on his final lap,
18:37which left him down the order.
18:38He was trying desperately to make moves earlier on in this race
18:41and came into contact.
18:42I think he's still got some front wing damage that has carried on,
18:45but he's going to struggle to make much more progress from 24th
18:48with that front wing damage.
18:49We saw the live championship there.
18:51This would close the gap between Tramlitz and Camara to 16 points.
18:57But Camara in 12th, he's not going to worry about that at all
19:02because he can start on pole position tomorrow.
19:04Right, safety car is ending.
19:06Tramlitz needs to take full points here in terms of his championship.
19:10He sits second in the standing so far.
19:12He'll know that, but he's got a queue of drivers behind
19:15all wanting to get on that top step of the podium.
19:17First in them is his teammate wanting to get that first taste
19:21of a Formula 3 podium right there.
19:23Bruno Del Pino, Mari Boer wants to return there,
19:26having been there before.
19:27And then we've got the Red Bull Junior wanting to be the driver
19:31who's been there more than anyone in Nikola Solov.
19:34Okay, here we go down to Rovazza,
19:36and Tim Tramlitz has gone through the first part of it
19:39and he's absolutely nailed that restart out of the final corner
19:44and down the start-finish straight.
19:45We are back underway and racing in this Formula 3 sprint race
19:49at Imola.
19:50On to lap 9 we go as they fire their way past the pit wall
19:54and Nikola Solov has the run on Mari Boer.
19:56The Red Bull Junior going by the white Campos
19:59and Nikola Solov is going to get his way onto the podium.
20:02Places or is he?
20:03Mari Boer, braver on the brakes, and he holds on to third place pits.
20:07Well, brilliant defensive move there from Boer.
20:09It looked like the move was done from Solov,
20:11but Boer just rolled off the brakes.
20:12I think Boer might have an issue.
20:13Yes, he's slowing down.
20:15We saw something similar to this with Leonardo Fornaroli last year,
20:18but it looks like he's just lacking power at this stage.
20:20We'll keep an eye on that for now,
20:22but it puts Solov up to third and Sharp into fourth place.
20:25He's in a brilliant race.
20:26He's up four or five positions now
20:28and he's looking at the back of Solov for a podium.
20:31Mari Boer clearly struggling with something,
20:34but Mattia Zagazzetta, we may see that safety car
20:37straight back out onto the circuit
20:39because Mattia Zagazzetta is off at one of these chicanes, it looks like.
20:44Mari Boer, though, tumbling, tumbling down the order.
20:47He's off at Tamburello, I understand, Zagazzetta,
20:50and Mari Boer has gone from the podium places
20:53in the space of a few corners all the way out the points,
20:56and it might be possible we see him coming straight into pit lane here
20:59because he is really struggling out there into the chicane we go.
21:03Variante alta, and that is Alessandro Giusti in the Williams colours
21:07going side by side with one of the McLaren juniors there.
21:11Down the hill we go, and look at Mari Boer.
21:13He's really, really struggling.
21:15Heartbreak for the Spaniard.
21:17It's just not going well for him at all this season.
21:20Safety car is out, and that might give him a chance
21:22to investigate within that car and with his team on pit wall
21:25what on earth is going on.
21:27Out front, though, we know Nikolas Solov has got by
21:30and he now has a chance to bridge what was a 2.4 second gap
21:34to the leaders.
21:35Mari Boer is in pit lane.
21:37Such torrid luck for Boer here in sprint races.
21:40He didn't finish this race last year in F3,
21:43and then this year he was looking like he was on course for a podium,
21:46maybe even better, and then issues for his car
21:50and also into the pits is Callum Boyson,
21:52I presume also to get that front wing fixed.
21:54As you can see, the damage that he cropped in the first lap
21:57is still remaining.
21:59Good opportunity for those drivers both to take stock
22:02and find out what's going on.
22:03Boer has turned the engine off.
22:05You can see the disappointment in the body language.
22:07He looks like he's out of the race.
22:09I think Boyson will rejoin the back of the pack.
22:11Yes, he will.
22:12So he'll get the advantage to be able to join everyone else
22:14and have another go at this race,
22:16although with only eight laps remaining at the moment
22:18after Safety Car, probably six laps,
22:20it will still be a struggle for him to get in the points.
22:22Sensible decision from Boyson,
22:24and that experienced roading team,
22:26heartbreak for Mari Boer.
22:27He's out.
22:28He joins Nikola Marangeli,
22:30and he now joins Matthias Zagazetta,
22:33who has gone out.
22:34Let's find out what happened to the dams driver.
22:37He's gone up very early,
22:38and that front right is not attached the way it should be,
22:41flapping around.
22:42So that would suggest to me there's been some sort of contact
22:45down towards the Tamburello chicane.
22:49He was on the right-hand side of the circuit,
22:51but with damage to the right-hand side of the car.
22:55He just squeezed me onto the grass.
22:56I couldn't do anything.
22:57We don't know who he is yet.
23:00So we'll keep an eye on that.
23:02But unfortunately, Zagazetta,
23:03not the best qualifying for him.
23:05He qualified down in 26th place.
23:07Wasn't making a huge amount of moves in that one.
23:10But unfortunately, coming to an end.
23:12Although, all is not lost,
23:13because last year, the two drivers that DNFed
23:16in the sprint race,
23:18both finished inside the top ten.
23:20Megatunif DNFed,
23:22and he ended up winning the race in the future last year.
23:25And then Mari Boer, who's DNFed in this one as well,
23:27he came through and finished inside the top ten also.
23:29So, hope indeed for the luck gods for Zagazetta.
23:33He'll be hoping that he can turn that round tomorrow.
23:36He usually goes very well, him and Team Zagazetta.
23:38He got his best result in the regional championship here.
23:41Mari Boer, it's a real shame for him.
23:43It's luck's just not finding his way to him.
23:45He drove a great race at Bahrain
23:47in the feature coming from 20th to 8th on his birthday.
23:50But that's a real shame for him
23:54in terms of this triple header.
23:56It's, I guess, a momentum thing, isn't it?
23:58As a driver, you'll know this from your experience, Piers,
24:01that you can start with a good race
24:03in the first of six races you're going to do.
24:05I'm sure it just builds momentum
24:07in terms of your confidence, and you can work from that.
24:10Confidence is a real thing in terms of performance
24:12for these young drivers.
24:14There's no doubt that all these drivers on the grid
24:16have an immense amount of talent and skill
24:18that they've practiced over the years
24:20in lower formulas,
24:21and they can drive these cars all to within a couple of tenths.
24:24But confidence is the thing that allows you
24:26to turn up at a weekend, hit the ground running,
24:28and then deliver when you need it.
24:30And if you can, especially in a triple header like this,
24:33with three races and three rounds in three weeks,
24:36if you can get some momentum going,
24:37that will really help your challenge a bit.
24:40Well, it looks like our answer to who was involved
24:42with Zagazzetta has been answered.
24:44He and Callum Boisson have been noted at Turn 2,
24:47which is Tamburello for causing a collision.
24:49Maybe that exaggerated the problem for Boisson's front wing.
24:52And that's why we've seen him come into the pit later.
24:55I think we can put those two together.
24:57And that is why we saw the pit stop for Boisson
25:00and Zagazzetta off.
25:01We look ahead now to the second safety car restart this time.
25:04Tim Tramlitz did a very good job.
25:06He actually went to exactly the same point
25:08that Larry Ten Borda did last year
25:11in the Porsche M1 Super Cup race,
25:13into the entry of Rovazza 1.
25:15And it was very effective for Ten Borda,
25:18Larsen and the Porsches,
25:19and it worked well for Tramlitz this time as well.
25:21And we'll see if he'll go at the same point again this lap.
25:24He was well behaved.
25:25Didn't weave after that 100 metre board
25:27down towards Rovazza.
25:29And normally drivers will weave a little bit
25:31to try and put off the driver behind
25:32as to when they're going.
25:33It's a distraction tactic.
25:35But when you can't weave,
25:37you have to use positioning
25:39in terms of when you're going to go
25:40as opposed to distraction in terms of weaving left and right.
25:43They're allowed to weave at this stage,
25:45but then halfway down the hill towards Rovazza
25:47is when they will all be lying astern,
25:49ready to go.
25:50Green flag racing for six remaining laps.
25:53Here we go then.
25:54There you see Tim Tramlitz now
25:56just controlling the pace of the field,
25:59getting ready to go.
26:00And just like he did last time,
26:02he gets his foot down into Rovazza 1
26:04and out of Rovazza 2.
26:05That looks like a very good restart.
26:07Once again, we are back green here at Imola
26:10once again for Round 3
26:12of the FIA Formula 3 Championship
26:14at Imola in the sprint race.
26:16And Tim Tramlitz has left
26:18his MP Motorsport teammate Bruno Delpino behind,
26:21who's got the pressure now of Nikola Solov there.
26:24Our championship leader, Rafael Camara,
26:26trying to get himself into the points
26:28as he challenges Santiago Ramos.
26:31But Tramlitz, a great restart for him.
26:33DRS will be open at the end of this lap.
26:37You've got to be within a second to use it,
26:39but it's Tramlitz from Delpino.
26:41Solov is the Red Bull Junior.
26:42Luis Sharp trying to get his first podium.
26:44And then it's Ugochukwu and Leon next behind that
26:47with Roman Belinsky off the batter.
26:49Tiny restart from all of them.
26:51And you'd have to say,
26:52any one of those top six could win this one.
26:54Absolutely, anyone in the top six
26:56has got a chance at this one.
26:57Although the MP duo at the front of the field
26:59of Tramlitz and Delpino look strong at this stage.
27:03The two safety car periods that we've had
27:05will help with the tyre degradation.
27:07Medium Pirelli tyres this weekend.
27:09We saw a bit of braining last year.
27:11Not so much this race so far.
27:13We're looking at the second of the Prema cars.
27:15That is Noel Leon,
27:16who's dropped down a few places
27:18from his grid slot of fifth.
27:20He's down one place, actually.
27:22He didn't move up after the start.
27:24Look at the amount of kerb these cars are using.
27:26Jumping over the gap in the middle.
27:28Wonderful camera shot on the bollard here.
27:30Callum Voicin took a dislike to that bollard yesterday
27:33in practice and completely wiped it out.
27:35But today they've been a bit better behaved.
27:36Delpino could be under threat here
27:38if he does not start to close this gap down.
27:40He's seven tenths back.
27:41And Nikola Solov could be ready to pounce on board.
27:44We go with him now, down this start-finish straight.
27:46He'll know that,
27:47and he'll try and start to put Delpino under threat.
27:50Next time round, he would have DRS bits.
27:52It's critical that Delpino stays within a second
27:55of Tramlitz at the front of the field.
27:57If he drops back past a second,
27:59then he'll lose the DRS,
28:01and then he'll be pretty much a sitting duck
28:04to the likes of Solov, Schaaf, Mugachukwu and Leon.
28:06Delpino doing a great job.
28:08Rookie driver.
28:10If he can hang on to this podium,
28:12it would be a superb result for the Spaniard.
28:15And he's doing a great first sector.
28:17Came through the first chicane really well there.
28:19It's Louis Schaaf, if anything now,
28:21who's putting the pressure on.
28:22Third-year driver Nikola Solov
28:24in that black and white road in motorsport car.
28:27There is confirmation we have DRS enabled once again.
28:30Mugachukwu, likewise, wants to pounce.
28:32You don't know who's going to make the first move in all of this.
28:35We will have to wait and find out.
28:37Up the hill we go towards Piratala.
28:39Kamara trying his best to get by Santiago Ramos.
28:42He knows his big day for points is tomorrow
28:45as they head down through Acominara.
28:47Tramlitz in the last lap of the race,
28:49on that last lap,
28:50showing that as the fuel burns off,
28:51these Ferrari tyres are holding on pretty well.
28:53And Tramlitz is doing all he can to break the tow
28:56and break the DRS to the drivers behind.
28:58Actually, Delpino's had a very important first step
29:01to this lap.
29:02Pulled a couple of tenths back on his teammate
29:04to keep himself alive for that second place.
29:07Because, as I mentioned,
29:08if he loses that DRS,
29:09he's going to be an absolute sitting duck.
29:11Six and a half tenths,
29:12now down to six tenths is the gap
29:14between our two leaders at the moment.
29:16So, Delpino, if anything,
29:17is now the one that's applying the pressure.
29:19As Solov just drops off the back
29:21a little bit in third place.
29:23Sharp's now going to be in a position
29:24to potentially have a look at the back of Solov.
29:26I'd say Sharp could be going backwards,
29:28if anything, here.
29:29Look at Mugachukwu in the background.
29:30The McLaren Junior right behind him
29:32with that silver crash helmet,
29:33ready to try and pounce.
29:35Delpino, meanwhile, appears as close right in.
29:38We thought he could be the driver under threat.
29:40If anything,
29:41he's the one putting his teammate under pressure.
29:43We have a battle for the lead going on here.
29:46And Tim Tramlitz is now having to investigate
29:48his rear mirrors
29:49because Bruno Delpino
29:51is trying to take the fight
29:52to his more experienced teammate.
29:54This is a really interesting race here,
29:55as the gaps ebb and flow.
29:57We've got a ten-second penalty,
29:58as you can see at the top of the screen,
29:59for Voicin,
30:00because of that collision with Zagazeta.
30:02So, not a good race for Voicin.
30:04And he's last of the running drivers,
30:06as Leon goes wide.
30:07Yeah, off the track is Noel Leon,
30:08and he was in a fight with Roman Belinsky.
30:10Roman Belinsky has gone through,
30:12and Noel Leon has gone backwards,
30:14possibly out of the top ten.
30:16He's tenth,
30:17and now he has Rafa Kamara behind.
30:19So, Roman Belinsky was right behind him,
30:21coming onto the start-finish straight,
30:23out of Toza,
30:24he's wide,
30:25and now he has the championship leader
30:27right behind him in Rafa Kamara.
30:29And you saw a big slide as well from Leon
30:30on the exit of Akuma Narale,
30:32because his tyres are still dirty
30:34from taking a run off of the racing surface,
30:36picking up all the grass and dirt.
30:38Takes a few corners for them to clean.
30:40Leon's now going to be under pressure
30:42from our championship leader
30:43and pole sitter for tomorrow.
30:45Let's have a look at this again,
30:46a late dive up the inside.
30:48So, that was Tapanin.
30:50That was Tapanin.
30:51So, Belinsky's already gone through,
30:52Tapanin goes down the inside,
30:54and Leon goes wide.
30:55Yeah, Leon goes wide.
30:56I think that was fair enough from Tapanin.
30:57He got all the way alongside.
30:58I think Leon just shuffled a little bit wide here,
31:01he's down in the last points playing position.
31:04Actually, Leon's got back past Santiago Ramos
31:07on the final sector of the lap
31:09that we haven't seen.
31:10But back at the front of the field,
31:11it's still Tramis, Del Tino and Solov
31:13in the first three positions.
31:14Belinsky's flying, he's on your screen.
31:15Look at him, he's close.
31:16He was eight tenths behind Ugo Chigurh,
31:18and he's already closed up to the back of the American.
31:21He's absolutely flying.
31:22He's set the fastest lap on this race.
31:24He's the last of those six,
31:25and he's definitely in contention for a podium.
31:28So is Noah Stromstedt.
31:30He is the first of those trident cars.
31:32He's right on the back of Tuka Tapanin,
31:34who does not have DRS,
31:36so we could see a change between those two
31:38next time around.
31:39Up the hill we come,
31:40and Roman Belinsky piling on the pressure
31:43on Ugo Ugochukwu there
31:45for fifth place as we head uphill.
31:47We haven't got the battle for the lead.
31:49Oh, front wing damage.
31:50Someone there,
31:51we definitely have seen some damage
31:53to one of the cars coming up the hill.
31:55It was hard to spot exactly who that was,
31:57but we might be able to pick it up
31:59as they make their way downhill.
32:01Was it the high tech of Josh Dufek?
32:03I don't think so,
32:04but it's getting very close out there,
32:06Piers.
32:07Very, very close indeed.
32:08Belinsky still very close on the back of Ugochukwu.
32:10He's been, Belinsky,
32:12consistently very good in that final sector
32:14all weekend long,
32:16getting a good exit out of the final corner,
32:18which is putting him in a good position
32:20to make the most of that DRS.
32:21As we see now some shuffling for position
32:23further back.
32:24Tapanin's going to be under pressure
32:26from Stromstedt as he's lost the DRS
32:28to Belinsky ahead.
32:29And Solov has closed right to the back of Del Pino.
32:32The gaps are going up and down all the time,
32:34but look at this,
32:35in the background,
32:36the second of the Red Bull Juniors,
32:38is Solov close enough?
32:39I'll tell you what,
32:40possibly the closest is Belinsky to Ugochukwu,
32:42and in the background,
32:43Stromstedt right on the back of Tapanin,
32:46moving, coming there.
32:47Belinsky had to think about it on Ugochukwu,
32:49but Stromstedt is going to go by Tapanin,
32:52and that is a change for 7th place.
32:54The move was coming,
32:55and Stromstedt goes through.
32:57He had DRS, Tapanin didn't,
32:59and Leon closes in on the back of them.
33:01We are on lap 16 of 18.
33:03Del Pino, is he waiting for his chance
33:06to get a move done here?
33:08Is he letting the laps go by,
33:09or is Tramnitz just putting on a really good defense?
33:12You need to be within about half a second,
33:14it looks like,
33:15to be able to take advantage of DRS
33:17as they head back uphill.
33:19And there you can see the polystyrene,
33:21where someone had made contact there
33:23coming up the hill.
33:24Great news as they make their way uphill.
33:26Let's try and investigate what happened.
33:28Let's have a look at this.
33:29It was in the middle of that pack there.
33:31Can't see anything at the moment.
33:34Oh, it was for Nicolo LaCorte.
33:37Yes, Nicolo LaCorte.
33:38His front wing end plates just decided to part ways.
33:41We're seeing Voicin getting involved again.
33:44We're looking at the back of Voicin's car,
33:46right at the back of the field.
33:48He's just running over that remaining debris
33:50as Voicin tries to get past Ivan Dominguez
33:53right at the back of the field.
33:55I think that was Van Houten.
33:56Oh, it was Van Houten, my mistake.
33:58In terms of the contact,
34:00the initial contact,
34:01that was Van Houten and LaCorte.
34:03Okay.
34:04Has everyone got DRS in that front train?
34:08Yes.
34:09There is definitely a gap here
34:10between Ugo Chukwu and Bielinski
34:11as we head down the start-finish straight.
34:13Ugo Chukwu's only just got DRS to sharpen front,
34:15but he'll be lacking a bit of a toe.
34:17So Bielinski's going to have a run down
34:19into Tamburello this time.
34:21Is he going to be close enough to effect a move?
34:23Not quite close enough,
34:24but this is definitely the most likely opportunity
34:26for an overtake inside the top seven positions
34:29at the moment,
34:30as the road and cars are very, very strong
34:32in race pace this weekend so far.
34:35The lap before, when we saw Stromsted
34:38get past Taffenen so easily
34:41with the DRS down towards turn one
34:43just proves how good of a job
34:44that Tramnitz is doing at the front of the field
34:46to maintain that gap just big enough
34:48that his teammate Del Pino behind
34:50can't make an easy DRS pass.
34:52He certainly is.
34:53Up the hill they go.
34:54Tramnitz doing a really solid job here
34:57to hold on
34:59and keep at bay Bruno Del Pino
35:01as we ride on board with Roman Bielinski there
35:04all over the run-off kerb.
35:05On the exit, downhill, and there's a mistake.
35:08The pressure tactics have worked.
35:09Ugo Chukwu runs wide.
35:11Roman Bielinski goes through.
35:12He's into P5.
35:13Ugo Chukwu just got a bit wide
35:15and he's got a lot of gravel and dirt on his tyres.
35:17He's dropped well down the order.
35:18Ugo Chukwu's going to be down towards the back end
35:21of the top ten.
35:22He joins in seventh,
35:23but then he's going to be under pressure
35:25the second half of this lap
35:26as we head on to the final lap of the race.
35:28He's going to be under pressure from Tapanen
35:30who's going to have DRS down towards turn one
35:32at the front of the field.
35:33We cut back to Del Pino.
35:34Let's have a look on board Ugo Chukwu.
35:36We go to the bumpy first apex
35:38of Aquaminerale.
35:41That's almost exactly what Intropuvozac did
35:44in qualifying yesterday,
35:45but somehow just managed to keep it
35:47mostly under control and continue on,
35:50but loses positions to both Bielinski and Stromstedt.
35:57In towards Tamburello we go for the final time
36:01and Del Pino doing everything he can here
36:03to apply the pressure to Tim Tramnitz.
36:06Tramnitz has put up a stern defence,
36:08but this has been a great drive
36:10from young Bruno Del Pino
36:12who is on to take his first podium in Formula 3.
36:15Nikola Solov right in there behind
36:17an experienced driver
36:18and this is looking good for his championship.
36:20Tim Tramnitz trying to get his second Formula 3 win.
36:23Louis Sharpe.
36:24What a result this would be for him
36:26in the points for the first time as well.
36:28We're on to the final lap of the race.
36:31Can Bruno Del Pino find anything
36:33to get that extra bit of pressure on Tramnitz?
36:35He's got to try and hold off the likes of Solov.
36:38Yeah, last time around Tapanen managed to get
36:40Pye on Ugo Chukwu down towards turn one
36:42while we were watching the onboard of Ugo Chukwu run wide.
36:45So the dirt on his tyres plus the DRS
36:47meant Ugo Chukwu dropped another position.
36:49That mistake cost him three places
36:51on the penultimate lap of the race.
36:52We cut back to the man at the front of the field
36:54that's not put a foot wrong so far.
36:56Tramnitz, he got past his teammate early on,
36:59managed two safety car restarts
37:01and has actually extended the gap on this final lap
37:03as he comes to complete a sprint race.
37:06Italy's very kind to him.
37:07He took his first Formula 3 win
37:09in the Monza sprint race last year
37:11and now he's going to return to the top step
37:14of the podium here at Imola.
37:16It will be a first win of the 2025 season
37:19for Tim Tramnitz as he comes across the line
37:22to lead a first.
37:231-2 for MP Motorsport.
37:25Bruno Del Pino in second place
37:28to take his first Formula 3 podium
37:31and Nikola Solov on the podium
37:33once again this season.
37:35What a result for the MP Motorsport team.
37:38This a day they will remember
37:40for a very, very long time.
37:43Well done to Tim Tramnitz.
37:45Well done to Bruno Del Pino.
37:48This is a day those guys will remember.
37:51They have worked so hard,
37:52like all the teams up and down this paddock
37:55and they will certainly celebrate this one.
37:57Tim Tramnitz, a crucial result for him
38:00in this championship fight.
38:01He needed to go out and take full points today
38:03and he's done it.
38:04Yes, Tim. Yes. Good job.
38:06Good job. Really good race.
38:07P1. P1 and really good job with Bruno P2.
38:10Very good team effort.
38:12Yes, guys.
38:14Important.
38:16Very important race in the terms of the championship.
38:19He'll gain 10 points as the fastest lap
38:21was taken away from him by Stromsted
38:23at the end of the race.
38:24So Stromsted will get that extra bonus points.
38:27Let's have a look on forward,
38:28or let's have a look and see what happens
38:30to Santiago Ramos.
38:31This was on the last lap.
38:32Looking at the inside, a very anti-alta,
38:33a very unusual overtaking opportunity
38:35and took to the air to get that one done.
38:37Did he get it completed on the number three
38:40of Ugo Chukwu?
38:41He lost his front wing.
38:42No, so he didn't.
38:43And lost out a lot of positions there.
38:45That was a little clumsy last lap.
38:47A little too late.
38:48That was on Brando Badawer, wasn't it?
38:50That's the 21, actually.
38:52That is Santiago Ramos, yes.
38:53So that was, I think, an opportunist move
38:56on the final lap that didn't pay off.
38:58And following through was the number nine
39:01of Wharton as well.
39:02So none of those positions were for points.
39:05It was more maybe an opportunity to try it
39:07ahead of the feature race tomorrow.
39:09But in terms of the championships,
39:11this is Del Pino.
39:12Well done, Bruno.
39:13Well done.
39:14We take it.
39:15We take it.
39:16This is a strong one.
39:17Strong one.
39:18Super.
39:19Super.
39:20Go!
39:21I'm proud of you, mate.
39:22Which one?
39:23I'm proud of you.
39:24And this is good.
39:26He drove a superb race, didn't he?
39:28Bruno Del Pino getting himself onto the podium.
39:32I mean, that's an absolutely brilliant result.
39:34We saw him in the points for the first time
39:36last time out.
39:37But into the podium on just his third round
39:39of Formula 3.
39:40Brilliant result, really.
39:41No doubt.
39:42That's just to Solove as well.
39:51Yes, it's an important race, the championship, this one.
39:53Tramnitz second at the moment.
39:56He was 28 points off the lead of Camara.
40:01Takes 10 points back, so that will be down to 18.
40:04Camara once again a non-score.
40:06Yeah.
40:07With the provisional results, of course,
40:08we don't know what's going to happen
40:09potentially after the race.
40:10But in the provisional results, another non-score.
40:12So that's three sprint races, three non-scores
40:15for our championship leader.
40:16It puts a lot of pressure on Camara
40:18in the feature race tomorrow.
40:19Granted, he has good pace, the fastest driver we've seen,
40:23and also starts from pole position.
40:25But the championship shaping up nicely.
40:28And if you can keep banging in results like Tramnitz is,
40:31then he's going to be in a good position
40:33coming the end of the year.
40:35Tim Tramnitz takes his second Formula 3 win,
40:38and once again, it's on Italian soil.
40:41He climbs out the car,
40:42and this is his first win of the 2025 season.
40:47He said he was going to go out there
40:48and take four points today,
40:50and he's executed it absolutely perfectly.
40:53Full congratulations to him.
40:54He had to put up with the pressure
40:56of not just his teammate, but a queue of drivers behind,
40:59and he dealt with it absolutely perfectly.
41:01There's his father,
41:02who will be incredibly proud of what Tim has done today,
41:06and he can celebrate with his team.
41:08MP Motorsport getting a one-two finish,
41:11something we haven't seen before.
41:13So a huge congratulations to the team,
41:16who will certainly celebrate this one
41:18before they go out in the feature race tomorrow.
41:20Well done, Bruno Del Pino,
41:22on the podium for the first time in his rookie season,
41:25and it's a fifth podium for Nikolas Solov
41:27in Formula 3 today,
41:28who's gaining momentum in this championship.
41:31Del Pino will be content with that.
