00:16Reach for the speed, reach for the whistle, go where the rail may run.
00:23Reach for the words, reach for the story, follow the rainbow's sign.
00:31To a shining time station, where dreams can come true, waiting there for you.
00:45Mail call!
00:49Anything for me!
00:50Anything for me!
00:51Anything for me!
00:52All right, just a second, kids.
00:54Let's see.
00:55Tanya?
00:56Uh, me?
00:59Aw, Matt?
01:03Look, my PayPal sent me a picture!
01:06Aw, isn't mail wonderful?
01:10You put a letter in a mailbox and someone gives it to your friend a thousand miles away.
01:17Got any mail for me there, Stacy?
01:20Oh my, oh dear, time for me to disappear!
01:27Well, is there any mail for me?
01:29I don't think so, Harry.
01:31No, were you expecting something?
01:33No, not necessarily.
01:36Just thought there might have been.
01:39Thank you.
01:41Oh, something wrong with Harry?
01:45Looked like he was expecting something.
01:47He sure seems sad.
01:49Yeah.
01:50Oh no, I just remembered it's Grandpa's birthday!
01:53Oh, no wonder!
01:55It's Harry's birthday?
01:58I've got an idea.
02:00Why don't we show Harry how much we care about him and throw him a surprise party?
02:06Let's go tell him right now!
02:08Get over here.
02:11The whole point of a surprise party is that the person doesn't know about it until it begins.
02:17We've got to get him some presents.
02:19I know, I'll get him a jump rope.
02:21And I'm going to get him a baseball bat.
02:24Well, I've got another idea.
02:26How about we make him something?
02:29Oh, an original creation.
02:33I don't want anybody to buy a present, but making him something is really special.
02:38It's a little bit of you.
02:40Let me go see if I can buy some supplies.
02:43Where are you going?
02:45We need some music if we're working, right?
02:47Music, right!
02:49Hey, did you guys hear that?
02:51It's Harry's birthday!
02:54We should play a song Harry really likes.
03:00Heads up! Here comes a pickle!
03:07The song is, A Railroader For Me.
03:11Hey, we know that one.
03:19Now I would not marry a blacksmith
03:24He's always in the black
03:29I'd rather marry an engineer
03:34That rolls the throttle back
03:40A railroader, a railroader
03:45A railroader for me
03:50If ever I marry in this wide world
03:55A railroader's bride I'll be
04:00I would not marry a farmer
04:05He's always in the dirt
04:10I'd rather marry an engineer
04:15That wears a striped shirt
04:21A railroader, a railroader
04:26A railroader for me
04:31If ever I marry in this wide world
04:36A railroader's bride I'll be
04:41If ever I marry in this wide world
04:46A railroader's bride I'll be
04:56There! Now all we need is something to put it in.
05:00Say, Stacy, mind if we hear that tune again?
05:03Yikes! Don't let Harry see the presents!
05:07Oh, I'm sorry, Harry. Somebody needs something.
05:11Who needs what?
05:13Oh, Schemer.
05:15Schemer?
05:16Yes, he needs a box of cheese giggles from the storeroom.
05:19I just brought him up some cheese giggles this morning.
05:21Yeah, but he needs another one.
05:23Would you mind going to the storeroom and getting it for him?
05:26I must be getting old.
05:28People keep thinking of jobs for me just to make me feel youthful.
05:36Now we've got to find a box to put all this stuff in.
05:39How about this?
05:40Perfect!
05:43Now let's look for a place to hide it.
05:51Well, it's a relief that's over with.
05:54Mr. Kidnapper, what happened?
05:56You mean to say you didn't hear it?
05:58Hear what?
05:59All that grumbling and fussing on the island of Sodor.
06:03All the grumbling we're hearing is from Harry, but that'll be over soon.
06:07Who's been grumbling and fussing?
06:09It was Gordon and the others.
06:11And they were having... Well, let me blow my whistle and you just listen.
06:20Henry, James and Gordon were miserable.
06:23They had been shut up for several days for being naughty and longed to be let out again.
06:30At last, Sir Topham Hatt arrived.
06:33I hope you are sorry, he said, and understand that every job on the railway is important.
06:38We have a new tank engine called Percy who helps pull coaches,
06:42and Thomas and Edward have worked the main line nicely.
06:45But I will let you out now if you promise to work hard.
06:49Yes, sir, said the three engines, we will.
06:52That's right, but please remember that this no-shunting nonsense must stop.
07:00He then told Percy, Edward and Thomas that they could go and play on the branch line for a few days.
07:09And they ran off happily to find Annie and Clarabel at the junction.
07:14The two coaches were so pleased to see Thomas again.
07:22Edward and Percy played with freight cars.
07:25Stop, stop, stop, screamed the cars as they were pushed into their proper sidings.
07:30But the two engines laughed and went on shunting till the cars were tidily arranged.
07:40Next, Edward took some empty cars to the quarry.
07:43Percy was left alone. He didn't mind that a bit.
07:46He liked watching trains and being cheeky to the other engines.
07:50Hurry, hurry, hurry, he would call and they got very cross.
07:56After a great deal of shunting, Percy was waiting for the signalman to set the switch so that he could get back to the yard.
08:10He was eager to work but was being rather careless and not paying attention.
08:14Edward had warned Percy, be careful on the main line.
08:17Whistle to the signalman, you are there.
08:19But Percy didn't remember to whistle, so the busy signalman forgot him.
08:24Percy waited and waited.
08:26The switch was still against him so he couldn't move.
08:29Then he looked along the main line.
08:31Peep, peep, he whistled in horror for rushing straight towards him was Gordon with the express.
08:42Oh, groaned Gordon, get out of my way.
08:46Percy opened his eyes, Gordon had stopped with Percy's buffers a few inches from his own.
08:57But Percy had begun to move.
08:59I won't stay here, I'll run away, he puffed.
09:02He went straight through Edward's station and was so frightened that he ran right up Gordon's hill without stopping.
09:13After that he was tired but he couldn't stop, he had no driver to shut off steam and apply the brakes.
09:35shut off steam and apply the brakes.
09:37I want to stop, I want to stop, he puffed.
09:45The man in the signal box saw Percy was in trouble, so he kindly set the switch.
09:51Percy puffed wearily onto a nice empty siding, ending in a big bank of earth.
09:58He was too tired now to care where he went.
10:03I want to stop, I want to stop, I have stopped, he puffed thankfully.
10:10Never mind, Percy, said the workmen as they dug him out.
10:14You shall have a drink and some coal and then you'll feel better.
10:18Presently, Gordon arrived.
10:21Well done, Percy, you started so quickly that you stopped a nasty accident.
10:26I'm sorry I was cheeky, said Percy. You were clever to stop.
10:32Then Gordon helped pull Percy out from the bank.
10:39The two engines are now good friends, but Percy is always most careful when he goes on the main line.
10:50So now the other engines are friends with Percy?
10:53Oh yes, they just have to get to know him, that's all.
10:56Oh, you can be friends with my grandpa, all you have to do is get to know him.
11:00You can come to Harry's surprise party.
11:02Oh dear, I don't know, he may not even like me. He's a very private person, isn't he?
11:08I think he's just shy.
11:10That's impossible, grown-ups aren't shy.
11:13Some grown-ups are.
11:15Like who?
11:16Well, I can tell you about this friend of mine who lived alone somewhere for many years.
11:21Then some new folk moved in and it made him very shy indeed.
11:26That sounds like you, Mr. Conductor.
11:29Hi, Mr. Conductor.
11:30Well, gang, we're all set. All we have to do is clean up a little bit.
11:36Comes the word.
11:38And so is goodbye.
11:41Tell Schemer he can carry his own boxes from now on.
11:48I'm getting too old for this sort of thing.
11:50Oh, Harry, that's the second time today you said how old you're getting. You look pretty peppy to me.
11:55I feel fine, but I wouldn't call it peppy.
12:02Come on, do it. There you go. It never hurts to say hello. Hi, Harry.
12:11Hear something? Play it all, boys.
12:17Allow me to introduce myself.
12:25Lord, I am getting old.
12:29First I'm hearing voices.
12:32Now I'm seeing things.
12:36Well, I tried.
12:38Remember what you told us. Keep on trying.
12:41What's that, Mr. Conductor?
12:43It's a present for Thomas to cheer him up. He's been in a lot of trouble lately.
12:48What kind of trouble?
12:50I'll tell you the story.
12:55Thomas the Tank Engine has worked his branch line for many years and knows it very well.
13:03Thomas the Tank Engine
13:22You know just where to stop, Thomas, laughed his driver.
13:26You could almost manage it without me.
13:28Thomas had become conceited. He didn't realize his driver was joking.
13:34Later, he boasted to the others.
13:37Driver says I don't need him now, he told the others.
13:42Don't be so daft, snorted Percy.
13:45I'd never go without my driver, said Toby earnestly. I'd be frightened.
13:50Huh, boasted Thomas. I'm not scared.
13:53You'd never dare.
13:55I would then. You'll see.
13:57The next morning, the firelighter came.
14:00Thomas drowsed comfortably as the warmth spread through his boiler.
14:05Percy and Toby were still asleep.
14:08Thomas suddenly remembered.
14:10Silly stick in the muds, he chuckled.
14:13I'll show them. Driver said I could manage without him.
14:17I'll just go out. Then I'll stop and wheeze.
14:21That'll make them jump.
14:24Thomas thought he was being clever.
14:26Really, he was only moving because the careless cleaner had meddled with his controls.
14:31He soon found his mistake.
14:33He tried to wheeze, but he couldn't.
14:36He tried to stop, but he couldn't.
14:39He just kept rolling along.
14:42He didn't dare look at what was coming next.
14:45There was the stationmaster's house.
14:48The stationmaster was about to have breakfast.
14:52Horrors, cried Thomas, and shut his eyes.
14:56The house rocked.
14:58Broken glass tinkled.
15:00Plaster was everywhere.
15:03Thomas had collected a bush on his travels.
15:05He peered into the room through its leaves.
15:08He couldn't speak.
15:12The stationmaster was furious.
15:15His wife picked up her plate.
15:17You miserable engine, she scolded.
15:19Just look what you've done to our breakfast.
15:21Now I shall have to cook some more.
15:23She banged the door.
15:25More plaster fell.
15:27This time, it fell on Thomas.
15:29Thomas felt depressed.
15:31Workmen propped up the house with strong poles
15:35and laid rails through the garden.
15:40Then the Scottish twin engines, Donald and Douglas, arrived.
15:49Don't bash yourself, Thomas.
15:57We'll soon have you back on the rails, they laughed.
16:12Donald and Douglas, puffing hard,
16:16managed to haul Thomas back to safety.
16:18Bits of fencing, the bush, and a broken window frame
16:23festooned his front, which was badly twisted.
16:26The twins laughed and left him.
16:32Thomas was in disgrace.
16:37There was worse to come.
16:39You're in a lot of trouble, Thomas.
16:42I know, sir. I'm sorry, sir.
16:45Thomas's voice was muffled behind his bush.
16:48You must go to the works and have your front mended.
16:51It will be a long job.
16:53Yes, sir.
16:55Meanwhile, a diesel railcar will do your work.
16:58A diesel, sir?
17:00Thomas spluttered.
17:02Yes, Thomas, diesels always stay in their sheds
17:05till they are wanted.
17:07Diesels never gallivant off to breakfast
17:10in stationmaster's houses.
17:16Does that mean you shouldn't try and do things on your own?
17:20Oh, my word, no.
17:22It just means that there are some things
17:24that no one can do on their own.
17:26Even though they ride the rail,
17:29trains need drivers without fail.
17:33Okay, kids, will you come and help me for a while?
17:36All right. Better go with Stacy.
17:38See ya.
17:40Sure, bye.
17:46A drumroll, please.
17:51Hello, everyone. It is I, Schemer.
17:55I said...
17:57Hello, everyone. It is I, Schemer.
18:07This is just horrific.
18:09Just hunky-dory.
18:11A public place like this, and nobody is even on duty.
18:14Nobody is even here.
18:20Cheese giggles?
18:22Oh, hey, I know. I'll put these in the machine.
18:25It's about time now.
18:30Oh, I love these little things.
18:36Hey, another box of cheese giggles.
18:39Hey, yeah.
18:42That gives me an idea.
18:44I'll put that box of cheese giggles in the machine
18:47along with the potato boom-booms and the corn whammies,
18:50and this one I'll take home.
18:53Yeah. I mean, hey, I paid for them.
18:57Yeah.
19:04Well, now we've got everything.
19:07Not quite. Where's the cake?
19:09That's right. Where's the cake?
19:11I thought you'd never ask.
19:13Take a look down the anything tunnel.
19:16Oh, yeah.
19:38You'll need some flour
19:41Sugar and eggs, too
19:43And some baking powder
19:45A stick of butter, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
19:48You can cook everything
19:50From soup to a steak
19:52But don't be mistaken
19:55Cos there's nothing like baking a cake
19:58Baking a cake
20:00Baking a cake
20:03Baking a cake
20:05Baking a cake
20:07Chocolate or vanilla
20:10Any flavour will do
20:12Mix it all together
20:15Now it's a bowl of goo
20:18You could have made pudding
20:20That you eat till you ache
20:22But whatever you're making
20:25There's nothing like baking a cake
20:28Baking a cake
20:30Baking a cake
20:33Baking a cake
20:35Baking a cake
20:38Best of all is when it's
20:41Out from the oven
20:42You're so proud of yourself
20:45Cos you put all that love in
20:48And it's so exciting
20:50To give it away
20:53When everyone shouts
20:55Happy birthday
20:58Baking a cake
21:00It's a sweet thing to do
21:03Baking a cake
21:05Frosting and candles, too
21:08Baking a cake
21:10Happy birthday
21:13Happy birthday
21:16To you
21:23But where's the cake?
21:30Wow!
21:32Now we'd better hide it
21:34Yeah
21:36I'd better do the dishes
21:40Tanya!
21:42Uh oh!
21:44Tanya
21:45Is that a box of cheese giggles
21:48Or birthday presents?
21:52Cheese giggles
21:54Oh no
21:55I think our friend Schemer was here
21:57While we were gone
21:58And took the box of birthday presents
21:59By mistake
22:01Oh no!
22:02Don't panic
22:03We'll do something
22:04Hey Miss Jones
22:05Oh
22:06Where were you about 10 minutes ago?
22:08I came in here
22:09What happens if a customer came in here looking for change for my arcade?
22:15And what is everybody staring at?
22:19Oh, I thought that this was a carton of cheese giggles.
22:23Turns out to be a box of artsy-craftsy stuff.
22:27Is that Schemer out here?
22:30Listen, mister, the next time you want stuff brought up and downstairs,
22:33you'd better do it yourself.
22:34Oh, excuse me, Harry.
22:36Have you fixed that ticket puncher yet?
22:38Not yet.
22:38Oh, would you mind taking a look at it?
22:40Or should I just have it sent out?
22:42No need to send anything out.
22:44I'll fix it.
22:48Gee whiz.
22:49I do not even know what he's talking about.
22:51I didn't ask him to bring anything up here.
22:53And besides, this is not a carton of cheese giggles.
22:56It's a box of, uh...
22:57Birthday presents.
22:59Birthday presents?
23:00Somebody around here is having a birthday party?
23:02Harry, we're having a surprise party for him.
23:05Those are the presents we made.
23:07Yeah!
23:09I mean, uh...
23:10Oh, I, uh...
23:11I don't like surprise parties much myself.
23:13You kids, uh, go ahead and party without me.
23:16Have you ever been to a surprise party, Schemer?
23:21Kids.
23:24Kids?
23:27Would you like to come to Grandpa's surprise party?
23:31I mean, uh...
23:32Oh, that, of course, would depend on what time it was taking place.
23:35Right now.
23:36Oh, yeah.
23:42Hey, I don't have a present to give him.
23:44This could be very embarrassing for Schemer.
23:46Why don't you give him some nickels for the jukebox?
23:52Nickels?
23:53Coins of the realm?
23:54Moolah?
23:55You want Schemer to give Harry...
24:02Money?
24:03What a great idea, Schemer.
24:05You know how much Harry loves to play the jukebox.
24:08Uh, okay.
24:09Hey, I'll get to listen to the music, too.
24:12So it won't be a total loss.
24:14Okay.
24:15Is everybody ready?
24:17Yeah?
24:17Okay.
24:20Oh, Harry!
24:21Could you come out here for a second, please?
24:25Now what?
24:26Can't a man work in peace?
24:28Well, someone wants to tell you something.
24:31Well, what is it?
24:33Happy birthday!
24:38Well, sir, this is mighty nice.
24:44Yes.
24:46I guess maybe I was a little bit irritable today.
24:51But it's always good to know there are folks who care about you.
24:57So thank you.
24:58Uh...
25:01Oh, there's a mail from Pelican Falls, right on time.
25:08Harry!
25:10Harry?
25:11Huh?
25:12Harry, Harry!
25:13Oh, the whole bundle!
25:16Birthday card!
25:22That was a great party.
25:25The best birthday party I ever had.
25:29But what if he doesn't like me?
25:32Talk about something you both love.
25:36Trains.
25:38Very well.
25:40There I go.
25:43Excuse me.
25:52You for real?
25:53As real as you are.
25:55Was that you I saw before?
25:58Yes.
25:59That's a relief at least.
26:03But what do you do here?
26:05I live here.
26:07Been here since before the Mimosa Limited made their first run.
26:11That's going back a ways.
26:13Oh, I've been round the roundhouse a couple of times.
26:16Started this job the day the president's train went through.
26:19Do you remember that?
26:20Indeed I do.
26:23I was working on the Eastern Division then.
26:26And just imagine, the president of the United States
26:30was going to be riding on the Indian Valley Railroad.
26:34The man himself was on the back platform and he waved.
26:45Just imagine!
26:47I can, I can.
26:49I was on that train too.
26:52You were?
26:53I've been trying to tell you.
26:56I was the Indian Valley Railroad's special conductor.
27:01Every special train that went out,
27:03I was there just to make sure that nothing ever went wrong.
27:08You mean to tell me we were both on the same train and we didn't even know it?
27:13It looks that way.
27:15And you beat that?
27:19I, uh, didn't catch your name.
27:23Mr. Conductor, at your service.
27:26I'm glad you spoke up, Mr. Conductor.
27:30Yep.
27:31Reminds me of a story Big Dan Cunningham told me once.
27:35Swear that's true of course.
27:37Train was moving through a hailstorm.
27:39He said there were hailstones as big as basketballs.
27:43I said no, possibly baseballs, but not basketballs.
27:46But he swore to it.
27:47They were the biggest hailstones he'd ever seen.
27:50Reach for the speed, reach for the whistle, go where the rail may run.
27:57Reach for the words, reach for the story, follow the rainbow sun.
28:05To a shining time station, where dreams can come true, waiting there for you.
28:14So much to see, so far to travel, so much to learn to know.
28:24Friends by your side, folks to hold on to, who knows how far you'll go.
28:32To a shining time station, where dreams can come true.
28:37Your own imagination, waiting there for you.
