00:00It is about being a crazy bitch.
00:02This love has taken its toll.
00:05It's really weird, and it doesn't really make sense.
00:07I guess it's not really weird, it's really cool.
00:09Hi, I'm Claire Rosenkranz, and this is Music You Should Know.
00:18When I was making My Lover, I focused on the theme of a garden a lot,
00:24because a garden is a place where life, death, pruning, picking, watering,
00:28roots, and weeds can all exist, good and bad, life and death all together
00:32and still look very beautiful.
00:33That's a lot of things in my life.
00:35And I also constantly was visualizing the lifespan of plants,
00:41how things are planted and things grow and blossom and bloom
00:45and reach their fullest potential, and then they start to wilt and die
00:48and go back into the ground, becoming life for the next plants ahead.
00:53That's how I see a lot of things in my life as well.
00:56And sometimes the wilting and the death part is a very necessary process
01:00to get to the other side and produce more life.
01:03So there's a lot of nuance to that.
01:05But the garden theme was something that was a forefront.
01:14I don't think I've ever released a song like Chronic,
01:16and I think that was birthed out of a pretty tragic time.
01:22It shows a lot of different phases in my life where I would say that kind of represents
01:26the imagery of the plant like being sown and then growing and blossoming
01:32and wilting and dying and becoming food for the next life ahead.
01:34Like I would say that resembles that imagery the best.
01:37Another thing that was kind of at the forefront of my mind was making music that is timeless.
01:41I mean, I love all of my other music, but going forward, I just was really focused on wanting
01:47to make things that felt like they had longevity in my life.
01:50So even through like visuals, I wanted to use things that are timeless in my life.
01:55Timeless things in my life are like horses and the beach and the ocean and surfing and dance, ballet.
02:01Like dance was so important to me growing up.
02:04And so I wanted to incorporate a lot of those visual themes.
02:08Horses are so like so strong, so much authority, so powerful, but also so intuitive, so sensitive, so delicate.
02:16And same with ballet, very strong and but also very ethereal and pretty and as well as the ocean.
02:23It is like very glittery and gorgeous, but it can be a monster sometimes as well.
02:27I remember when I was super little, like, I remember always telling my mom like certain sounds
02:32or even like my family, like my sister's names or whatever it was.
02:35I'd always have like instant imagery and color to it.
02:38I guess there's, isn't that like synesthesia, I guess?
02:40Like I've never said that because I don't know why I've never been like, oh yeah, I have synesthesia.
02:44But I've always like, my mom was always like, wait, that's so crazy.
02:46You have like shapes and colors that come to your mind when you hear certain words or sounds.
02:50But I would say like I feel that way with the whole project.
02:52Like I could tell you what each song's color is and all of the songs.
02:57I have imagery for and colors for.
03:00I like don't really have the professional language for production sometimes.
03:04So I use like colors and swirls and shapes to explain what I'm trying to get across in the music.
03:11And my dad somehow knows exactly what I'm talking about and he can relate to Oliver and Oliver's like,
03:16and just like, yeah, puts it, it's like perfect every single time.
03:20So I feel like we have a good flow going on.
03:26Never done arenas.
03:27It was definitely like the first show.
03:30I, I like, I don't get nervous, but I remember before the very, very first show.
03:35I like went behind or like right behind the stage.
03:38And I was like, look, you can see like all the chairs and everything, the seats.
03:42And I was like, oh my gosh, that's actually massive.
03:44Yeah.
03:45I don't know.
03:46It was really fun.
03:47Like once, as soon as I step out on the stage, like I kind of forget everything and I feel
03:51very comfortable and I kind of step into a flow state pretty much.
03:56And, um, there were times where it was definitely challenging too, because you know, they're like,
04:01it's not my audience and there's like 15,000 of these people out there.
04:06And learning how to command a crowd that's not yours and also be sensitive to like what
04:12people are like willing to do and what they're not willing to do.
04:16It was just like a very like intuitive exercise.
04:19And ultimately I just made sure like before each show that I was going to have a lot, a
04:24lot, a lot of fun.
04:25Good.
04:26It was just awesome.
04:27A great experience.
04:28My favorite song to perform was both City and Chronic, both very, very different songs.
04:35City was just so fun because I was able to like run around and dance and jump.
04:40And it has like, it's very forward moving.
04:42And it felt very like, ah, I can be big up on the stage.
04:45Chronic was big in a different way.
04:47I would stand still just with like the mic stand.
04:50And that one, I feel like it was like very spiritual experience.
04:54I felt very sensitive.
04:55My dad was playing the violin and we would kind of like bounce off of each other.
05:00And that one was just like, that one's very like this.
05:04I don't know how to explain it.
05:05And like, I just feel like there's a lot of power coming from like this one, like a grounded
05:10place versus like City was very like all over the place and like big and loud and colorful.
05:17But this was like more grounded.
05:18So anyways, Chronic and City.
05:21My favorite two, Watch from Maroon 5.
05:25Instant, I mean, all of them because all of them are so nostalgic and like, I mean, hit
05:31after hit, after hit, after hit.
05:32I love This Love.
05:34This love has taken its toll.
05:37That one, because I just like listening to that one in my car, honestly.
05:40Yeah, it's This Love, One More Night, She Will Be Loved.
05:45Everything moves like Jagger.
05:47Yeah, everything, honestly.
05:53That's the only title that I wanted to change.
05:55I don't know why.
05:56It like doesn't, the title just doesn't resonate so much, but it is about being a crazy bitch.
06:00So it's honest at the same time.
06:02Like maybe eeny, weeny, miny, moe only because it's, I got eeny, meeny, miny, moe.
06:07That's the only part that like kind of sticks out.
06:10But it, I mean, honestly, it is about being a crazy bitch and being like, I don't know,
06:17just wanting somebody to still want you, even though they probably shouldn't.
06:21Like me and my best friend were talking and she was like dumping an experience of like,
06:26I still want this person to need me and stuff.
06:28And I was like, yeah, I feel like every girl goes through that sometimes.
06:30Like this one's the most chaotic.
06:32This is the most colorful.
06:33I see like a lot of dark green and like very like almost like hot pink.
06:39And it's just like kind of just splatters in your face.
06:43Yeah.
06:44There's lots of nuance to that one as well, but that's the first thing that comes to my mind.
06:48Yeah.
06:49And I'm really excited to make more music.
06:51That's my favorite part of the entire process is the creating.
06:54So yeah, I'm just so excited for this one to finally be out so I can get on to the next.
07:01Bye.
07:02Bye.
07:03Bye.
07:04Bye.
