Japan is one of the cleanest country to visit (including Singapore and surprisingly North Vietnam too).    While there are really not many scenic places that are outstanding (including Mount Fuji because we have seen many more better places), the food is outstanding.   Their sushi and other Japanese cooking has variety and appetizing.   The hospitality is quite good too at some hotels, but we couldn't stand the smell of the hot baths from natural springs (I think it is the suphur that stinks ...).     The city is quite well developed, but lack trees and it can be  quite dusty.   We did not go near Fukushima due to the radioactivity there, and we had to be careful about what we eat and drink due to radioactivity claimed by some articles on the internet.   But overall, we felt safe and are still alive.   Good place to visit.
