The poem “Colossus” by Sylvia Plath was first published in 1960. The poem was included in the anthology “Colossus” with another forty four poems.

The poem explores the theme of mourning. The speaker mourns her father. She compares her father to a huge statue that she believes is a remnant of a fallen god.
