Toyahs haunted House

00:00Purshaw, a pretty Georgian market town nestling in the heart of the Midlands, home to Toya
00:23Wilcox, actress, punk icon and it seems landlady to a house full of ghosts. As soon as I walked into
00:34this house I knew this was going to be my home for the rest of my life. I know my soul belongs here
00:39and there's some pretty obvious hauntings going on. When I was very very young there were things
00:46that would scare me if I thought about them too much so I wasn't you know kind of trying to
00:53make dead people visualize in front of me and stuff like that but there were definite
00:59visualizations happening then that my father was aware of and my father always felt that he was in
01:05contact with his deceased father. He'd be walking around the lounge having a conversation with his
01:11father. He was just very aware of that animal part of our nature that you know we're not the only
01:18existence on this planet. Toya has lived in this house for the past five years with husband guitarist
01:25Robert Fripp. A five-story Georgian villa the house itself dates back to around the 1720s but some parts
01:33are even older. The cellar is the oldest part of the house is about 1520 and all the stones from the
01:42Reformation. It's when the churches and the abbeys were knocked down and the stone was either stolen
01:48from Pershal Abbey and bought here or the monks built down here as a food store and a place to hide.
01:55The strongest presence in the house is here. It looks religious to me when I see it very clearly
02:03it's there's a tunic. It seems to be someone of a high religious order there. It never moves from
02:10this spot. It's never appeared anywhere else. It's just very still. A religious figure who she sees
02:18standing in her cellar. Could this be related to the stone that Toya says was used in its construction?
02:24Could the bricks possibly be retaining some kind of spiritual imprint of past lives?
02:29I think that reclaimed bricks can retain a ghostly presence. Particularly the case of the
02:36discovery of the foundations of Glastonbury Abbey where Frederick Bly Bond, the architect and
02:42archaeologist, found the ruins of the abbey by talking to the memories of the monks that were
02:48involved with those particular ruins. So most certainly bricks can retain energies from the past.
02:54And the cellar is not the only room in the house where Toya has been aware of a ghostly
02:59presence. She feels her bedroom has also had its fair share of night time spirit visitors.
03:06One night I was lying in bed and the door handle started to turn and the door opened.
03:14I shut the door again, went back to bed and again the door handle turned and the door opened.
03:20I can't really see it. It's more like a moving shadow. But there's a smell of cigarette smoke,
03:26a very feminine cigarette smoke. But also there's this sense of perfume and it's a bit
03:31violet-y. It's a really old-fashioned weighty perfume.
03:37And at the very top of the house, Toya has also been aware of a visiting presence.
03:45This is the attic and I keep all my clothes up here. So I have to come up here at least once or twice a month.
03:52One day I was up here and there was a shadow that was definitely moving.
03:58One of the reasons this spooks me is in old properties, in small villages, they would sometimes
04:04hold a court. And if they decided a poacher needed to be hung, they'd hang them in the stairwell.
04:11Now this is the top of the stairwell. It was a judge's house once. And it was the pubs and the
04:17judges' houses in the old towns where hangings used to happen. Could a hanging from the rafters
04:24explain Toya's feeling of discomfort in the attic?
04:29Punk icon and actress Toya Wilcox lives in the village of Pershaw in Gloucestershire. Since she's
04:35moved in, she's been aware of spirits in her house, from the cellar in the basement right up to the top
04:40attic. We've got an energy here that is just a replay. It's an emotional, it's in the bricks. We've got
04:46one that is definitely someone who hasn't realized they haven't passed over. And another one that is
04:52just a feminine presence. At least three spirits felt to be wandering the property then. Plenty for
04:58living with the dead medium Johnny Fiore to tackle. Coming from a long line of sensitives, she's come to
05:05see what she can feel for herself and prefers to make that journey without being told anything of what
05:10has gone on previously in the house. First stop, Toya takes her to the basement.
05:19Okay. So this is our cellar. I believe when it was built, this probably could have been ground level.
05:26Okay. What I'm getting right here is that something has been blocked up. The stone is definitely from the
05:34abbey which is 500 yards away and there were secret tunnels linking from here to the abbey but they've
05:42been bricked up. It's really funny as I'm saying that the floor is going really really cold on me.
05:47I get the sensation of pushing. I get this sensation that people were either pushed into this place
05:56or held in this place or made to stay in this place. It's just started to get a little chillier.
06:02What's on the other side of this door here? That leads to the street.
06:09Oh, it seems like it's an opening for spirit activity to come through. Like water running.
06:16The door doesn't actually stop it. But I don't feel, I don't feel uneasy here as I do back behind this
06:26door right here. I know there's a presence there. There always has been. Is it a man here? It's a man.
06:33He doesn't move from where you've just stood. He's guarding something. He's, it's as if he's on watch.
06:39He's always on watch. This is all that he knows. I believe this was a food store. Okay. And you would
06:48guard a food store. Yes. And especially if there was unrest. Yes, definitely. Or play that meant food
06:54became scarce. Yes. There is a story of a tidal wave coming up the river seven. It did a lot of damage
07:03to the crops, which meant food would be even more scarce. Yes.
07:15I've got an abbot down here. And he was the man that made all the deals. Even though he was a man of
07:22God, he was very good with making deals. He's even trading in flesh. I can get you this girl to do this
07:32job. This is, this isn't a bad guy. He's just doing what they used to do.
07:37So now Johnny has also picked up on this religious connection. Might there be a link with nearby
07:43Pershaw Abbey? The monks over the years became very loose living, shall we say. And just before the
07:52reformation, it was reported that they were living very debauched lives. At the time of the reformation,
08:00the abbot was this man called Stoney Wall, who was allowed to stay in the town. The townspeople were
08:06able to purchase part of the abbey. A lot of the houses still have gargoyles and various things that
08:13they borrowed from the abbey ruins in order to build up the town. Heading up the house, Johnny also
08:21feels strongly drawn to the main room. This is where Toya often feels a restless female presence.
08:27Oh my. I'm instinctively drawn into the bathroom. Really? Instinctively. I want to go into the
08:34bathroom. Here, this is what I'm talking about. What is this Toya? That's the immersion heater and
08:41an airing cupboard. And what's on the opposite side of that? The corridor into my office. Okay. I have
08:48so much activity associated with this, this door. I believe this may have been one of the hidden prayer
08:55closets. You know, when Catholics were being persecuted and they used to have the little
09:01Catholic cupboards. Oh, now I find that really spooky. There is a small cupboard in the corridor
09:06the other side. Okay. This is what I was looking for. This is an entry. Definitely get a sense of hiding.
09:13It's quite possible. I'll tell you why. Below us is where the horse and coaches used to come in or the
09:19horses used to come in. Okay. So it's highly likely that at some point this could have even been like a
09:25loft where you could have hidden people. This is a woman. So you've got a woman. Yes. She walks
09:32backwards and forwards. She keeps me awake at night. She just opens the door and walks in. Oh my goodness.
09:40If you'd like, I could show you what to do to keep her on that side of the door.
09:46Would it frustrate her? I mean, if she needs to make that journey.
09:50I think that's up to you. I mean, if you're happy to let her make her journey,
09:55as long as she doesn't frighten you anymore. I'm happy because she's doing it because she
09:58believes in something. She does. The most significant thing about the walk around with
10:03Johnny was that she knew the route to the back stairs going down to the tea room. I always knew
10:11there was a ghost of a woman up there who worked in the tea room because, you know, I've lived with
10:15her for seven years and I feel I know her very well. But for Johnny to pick that up and to pick up
10:21the roof through the bathroom into the cupboard was amazing.
10:28Moving into the attic, Johnny also immediately senses a strong presence.
10:37Oh, tell me about it up here.
10:40Oh, there's obviously something up here. My heart is beating so fast.
10:45I'm so lightheaded and I'm just, oh, it's just taking my breath away.
10:52My, my.
10:54Do you think there's been a suicide up here?
10:56Suicide? Let me walk over here a little bit. The energy feels a lot lighter here than it does back
11:04there. I agree. So if anybody took their life, it would have been over there where I had the feeling of
11:09suffocation and I couldn't breathe. In the landing, I felt like I was taking my last breath. I don't feel
11:15that here. But over there, it feels very oppressive and claustrophobic. There's no floor beneath me.
11:24Mm-hmm.
11:31The things that happen in the world. My gravity changes up here.
11:34Mm-hmm. My body gets heavier. We need to find out from Ian why it's so drastically different
11:42from this side to that side. Johnny Den has picked up ghostly echoes all around the house. Certainly,
11:49Toya has had strong feelings of spirit presence ever since she moved in. Could it be that they are
11:54particularly attracted to her, coming forward because of her receptiveness?
11:58People who are sensitive to spirits will probably be more easily influenced by those spirits than
12:05people who are not so sensitive. So it's a double-edged sword that if you're sensitive,
12:09you'll see things which perhaps those of us who aren't so sensitive are indifferent to or don't see
12:14at all. But your very gift of being able to see things means that there is something to be
12:20guarded rather carefully and not to be carried away with. While Toya seems comfortable with the
12:26spirits she feels are living around her, there are questions she does want answering about these
12:31presences. There is so much that Ian has to deal with in this house. If he starts in the cellar,
12:38he's got his hands full. If he goes to the middle of the house, he's got his hands full. But definitely
12:43in the attic. The feelings of dread and claustrophobia, the feelings of hopelessness,
12:49Ian has got his work cut out for him.
12:50Toya certainly feels the walk around has vindicated what she's experienced all along.
12:59I've always known a place is haunted because I get that feeling when I'm in it. I'm just
13:03falling the way you do in your dreams. I'm slightly scared because this is my home and I love it. And yes,
13:11I have experienced an awful lot of activity in the home, but never have I experienced anything that's
13:16made me want to leave this house. The following evening, Toya invites close friends and neighbors
13:23to gather for an evening of spirit exploration, including actress Ruda Lenska and Ruth Maddock,
13:28both of whom have had paranormal experiences in the past.
13:31I remember waking up at night feeling a sort of pressure on my pillow and being informed the following
13:38day that my grandmother had died at particularly that time. I sort of grew up with shadows,
13:46as I called them. So they haven't really upset me. All keen to make contact with the spirits in the
13:53house. Specialist house cleanser Ian Lawman is aware that Toya does not necessarily want to remove
13:59the spirits she feels around her, as she is happy to cohabit with those she's connected with.
14:05Hello. Hi. Hi. I can't 100% guarantee what will happen tonight. I can't tell you whether they're
14:12good or whether the negative souls that come through. So all we can do is walk around and let
14:17them do their own thing, really. Obviously, we all know that you're very spiritual. Well, in this house,
14:22it's a very active house, but it's a really happy house. I would worry that I aggravated it anymore
14:28because it's tolerable now. Okay. Now, if we could have a look around your property with everybody
14:35and see what we can experience. Well, follow me. Yeah, that's great. Thank you. Toya is keen for Ian to
14:41see the basement first. There's a little door. Like Johnny, he hasn't been told any details about the
14:47house or what Toya has experienced. However, as they arrive, he is drawn to the area,
14:52at the back of the room and the old stone wall. Okay. The closer I get to this wall,
14:59the darker it becomes for me. I would like everyone to touch the wall. Obviously, there may be a bit of
15:05salt and you should just be aware of that. It's called psychometry. I just like everyone just to
15:09touch it and just see what energies you get from it, what you feel from it. If you just close your eyes
15:15for a few seconds. And then I want you to ask in your own thoughts to ask spirit to come forward
15:24and speak out freely if you see anything, sense anything. My arms are really shaking.
15:30Anybody else feeling anything? I've been tingling in my hand. I've been tingling too.
15:34Same here. I feel like there's no wall there anymore, that it's going sort of through into
15:42infinity or something. Almost like a sponge absorbing it, pushing through. Yeah,
15:46but somebody's on my other arm again. Someone's on my right shoulder. Yeah, somebody's on my right shoulder.
15:53My hand is freezing cold, but the sun's on my back. I tell you what, from this side,
15:58there feels a very strong united force. Mm-hmm. Almost like a sort of solid energy, like...
16:06It's manual. It's... Oh, my arm's really shaking now.
16:16Do you feel negative with it, Ruler? No, but I feel as if I'm going to fall over. Okay,
16:19you can come away if you just want to step away from the wall two seconds.
16:24I didn't like whatever's in that wall. Okay. I get this huge
16:32physical strength. Yeah. Let's say it's a strength, and I feel that this room has been used for playing
16:44or something to do with threshing corn or something. Okay, keep it going. That's good.
16:58It looks like medieval. Mm-hmm. Leather aprons, a grinding wheel. Are you okay, Ruth?
17:09Mm-hmm. Both Ruth and Ruler appear to have made some spirit contact,
17:17something which Ian immediately picks up on. Come forward, friend. Can you tell us your name?
17:26Sure. Sure. Come closer for us. Do you know where you are? The house.
17:37The house. Do you belong in the house? Yes. I'm going to get Toy to ask some questions.
17:47Can you hand on the Toy just to make sure she's flat, that's it, mate? Just ask her some questions.
17:52Are you inside the house? Huh?
17:55The house. Bottom of the house.
18:11What are you doing in the bottom of the house?
18:16Corn. When will the corn be collected?
18:21Oh, after the grinding.
18:34Do you know where the flower will go?
18:37Oh. Out. Out. Of the house.
18:52What time of day do you start working?
18:55Fine.
19:01Fine. You okay?
19:03Fine.
19:04There's something terribly sad happening to me.
19:07I don't need to do with the children.
19:11There's children now. Okay.
19:13I will.
19:15Just take some deep breaths. You see children, you can sense children now.
19:18Yes.
19:19Okay. Whereabouts everywhere?
19:22I'll help.
19:28Who do you help?
19:28Whereabouts? Whereabouts our children?
19:31Oh, ma'am.
19:35How old are you?
19:36Do you know what they're doing here?
19:38They've got no clothes on.
19:41They've got no clothes on.
19:4212.
19:4612?
19:47I think.
19:49Marks of blood on their faces.
19:51So it's almost like there's punished down here.
19:55Are there any other children with you?
19:57Okay.
19:58I'm very little.
20:05Are you distressed?
20:06I'm going to have to get her back.
20:07Ruth's channeling is now of concern to Ian and he feels he has to step in.
20:12Ruth, Ruth, it's Ian.
20:14Just hear my voice.
20:15Okay, Ruth.
20:16Just come back slowly.
20:18Just ask him to stand back, darling.
20:20Ruth, it's Ian.
20:21You can hear my voice.
20:22Just take deep breaths.
20:25Deep breaths, Ruth.
20:27Stand back, my friend.
20:29Stand back.
20:32That's okay.
20:33It's all right.
20:35I've said deep breaths.
20:36Well done.
20:36Well done.
20:37Keep asking him to stand back.
20:39You okay?
20:40I've said deep breaths.
20:42I'll take breaths.
20:43I'll take breaths.
20:44I'll take breaths.
20:45I'll take breaths.
20:46I'll take breaths.
20:49Well done.
20:50Well done.
20:52Okay.
20:54Thank you for the communication, my friend.
20:56Now stand back and let Ruth step forward.
20:58Okay.
21:01Okay, well done.
21:05Just open your eyes slowly.
21:08Really slowly.
21:10Okay.
21:10It's a long time down.
21:11Well done.
21:14Brilliant.
21:14Are you okay?
21:16It appears then that Ruth and Rula have picked up on two completely separate spirits,
21:21with the image of distressed children having a strong effect on Rula.
21:26Something's very bad.
21:29What do you feel happened down here?
21:32Punished.
21:33It was punished?
21:34Mm-hmm.
21:35How many, how many have you seen?
21:36Lots of children?
21:37Oh, lots, yeah.
21:39Injured and crying and...
21:43What sort of age are the children?
21:44I think I'm...
21:45What?
21:46What sort of age?
21:46Very young, very young.
21:48Very young.
21:48Three, four.
21:49Okay.
21:50Straggly.
21:53Frightened.
21:56Hello.
21:57No, no adults at all, just...
22:01So they're just, just...
22:02Cried crying children.
22:03Okay, are they tied up or are they just loose around here?
22:06Just walking around.
22:10Okay, do you feel you want to get away from here now?
22:12Just, like, abandoned or locked in here or punished or something.
22:28Like, uh, they were all, all around.
22:32Mm-hmm.
22:32Around all this, I didn't see any, didn't feel any walls, nothing.
22:37It was like I was standing in the middle of a space with all these poor children.
22:42Right.
22:46Okay, well done.
22:47How many?
22:48Obviously, it's not nice for you, but that was, um, quite touching.
22:52The idea of them still being around and alone and...
22:58In ability to look after them.
22:59Okay.
23:01We can do something about that later, so...
23:03Please.
23:04We, we, we can help them.
23:07Okay, let's, let's always stand up.
23:09Okay.
23:13Okay.
23:15Toya Wilcox has felt the strong sense of spirits ever since she moved into her Georgian home in Pershore.
23:21I don't feel great fun at the thought of the seance.
23:25I really don't want anything demonic coming in.
23:27I, I think they're tricky and I'm going to be quite worried about it.
23:32Friends Rula Lenska and Ruth Maddock have both made strong connections in the basement cellar.
23:37There's something terribly sad happening here.
23:41And gathering in Toya's hallway, they try to digest what they have experienced.
23:46And this just overwhelming feeling of emotion and sadness.
23:51And it was just a space where there were a lot of children, naked, young, injured, frightened.
24:01Children.
24:02Don't know, it felt like they'd been either locked in there or they were being punished.
24:07But it was a very sad feeling.
24:12And then it went.
24:14Okay, yeah.
24:15That was very emotional and very intense, you know, for all of you really.
24:19And, and especially for you, Ruth.
24:21Well, it was actually not a cellar.
24:26Right.
24:26It was much more light in it.
24:28Right.
24:29Than a cellar.
24:30Yeah.
24:31It is on the level of the road.
24:34Okay, brilliant.
24:35She had this flattish of the cap that made her look like a boy.
24:38Right, okay.
24:39But she was actually a girl and she was, I think, about 12 or 13.
24:44But she, I don't think she really knew her age.
24:47From here, I would like to now move further up to the next sort of location.
24:52So if we go up the stairs to the next level, I think that'd be good for me.
24:56The next destination for the group is the bedroom.
25:00This is where the previous night both Toya and medium Johnny Fiore had felt a woman's presence.
25:06She walks backwards and forwards.
25:08She keeps me awake at night.
25:10Ian now also picks up on this and has a strong sense of her identity.
25:15The energy I'm picking up is of a female's energy.
25:20She feels very old, very nice lady.
25:24And she's wearing, it's almost like she's wearing a pinny.
25:28And she's got this tea on this lovely tray and cups, saucers.
25:35It would be cups, she's saying, china cups.
25:37But I can smell baking, cooking and everything like that.
25:43But it seems very, very busy.
25:44This is a tea room, the Willow Tea Rooms.
25:47So that would connect with the lady.
25:48And I first visited here when I was three and I'm now 50.
25:52So you've come back here.
25:53Let me see if she can give me anything.
25:55Can you give me your name, darling, please?
26:00Initially, I thought it was Laurie, but it's not Laurie.
26:02It's Lottie, quite a Buscombe lady.
26:07And you feel her energy quite a lot.
26:09Yes, she's the one that I'm convinced is opening the bedroom door.
26:13It is her? Yeah.
26:16It's almost like Lottie Spears or Spires, something like that.
26:20That's the sensation of the name she's giving me.
26:24I'm also hearing like a whistling sensation as well.
26:26So I do feel when she's cleaning up on an evening, she would whistle.
26:29So I do feel she would have walked through there.
26:33So these particular areas, I do feel that she would have served in these areas here.
26:37So that's the lady who's coming into your bedroom.
26:40I think if we could walk through that door there then,
26:42and just see what energies we'd pick up there.
26:44Because she's walking through there.
26:52Can anybody else sense or feel anything?
26:55I think the place was run by two elderly sisters, I think.
27:00It was.
27:00Was it?
27:01Yeah, it was.
27:01And then there was Spires, as far as I can remember.
27:05I mean, we've been here about 40 years.
27:07And what I can remember, I can remember it as a working cafe.
27:10Right.
27:11And I can always remember the smell of scones and that sort of thing.
27:16And I'm sure it was the Spires that had it at that time.
27:20Yeah.
27:21Ian, do you know why she comes in here?
27:23Because I'm sure this room has been added onto the house.
27:26I think, I feel that she would walk from there into here.
27:32And I felt that there would have been some, a staircase or something down here.
27:37So I felt that there would have been at some point an open doorway.
27:40So if we go upstairs from here, is that okay?
27:42Okay, it's a bit steep, everybody.
27:47The final location is the attic.
27:49Of all the places in the house, this is the one where Toya has felt the most threatened.
27:54It's something that Ian picks up on, even as he makes his way up to the room.
28:00All the way up the stairs, even in the house,
28:03I felt almost like a tightening around my throat area.
28:07So I do feel, once again, I don't want to upset you, but I do feel at some point somebody would have
28:14either hung themselves as a suicide, or there would have been several hang-ins.
28:20Yeah, I think it's very possible public executions happened here.
28:25Right, okay.
28:26It was a judge's house, yeah.
28:28Okay, and that's, it's almost like he got off on the fact that those executions here.
28:32Um, Roller? How are you feeling?
28:40Weak.
28:42Right, I'm going to have to sit down.
28:44I'm going to have to hold a little bit.
28:48Okay, right.
28:53Okay, um, is the room spinning at all, Roller?
29:00Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
29:00Okay, bear with me, just stand back for a Roller slightly, please, and come to me.
29:07I've got a gentleman's energy with me.
29:10His head's spinning, but I don't mean literally, it's almost like inside his head.
29:14A lot of confusion, a lot of, um...
29:16Shouting, lots of shouting going on.
29:19There's shouting going on.
29:20What's, what's his shouting?
29:21Um, it's jeering, shouting, um, cruelty, laughing.
29:32Ruller, is it someone who isn't very intelligent, who's being jibed?
29:38Look, look, his tongue is hanging out.
29:40His tongue is hanging out.
29:42It's got a root wrong, isn't it?
29:46No, fuck.
29:48No, it's not hanging.
29:51Do you know what he's done?
29:53He wants revenge, that wants punishment, that wants...
29:57There's no compassion, there's no...
30:00He has no friends there, that's for certain.
30:02People are going now, empty, square, he's just hanging.
30:07Completely silent, completely still now.
30:09So the people and the laughter's now disappeared.
30:14They've all left.
30:16Yeah.
30:18So the execution is now.
30:20It's, and it's, um...
30:25Sunset.
30:30What a beautiful sunset.
30:34It's really funny, because there's this man running around,
30:38um, who, who, if he was in our day, he would be in a mental institute.
30:46Um...
30:47He was the proverbial village idiot,
30:50and he would have been the result of incest.
30:54Who's Samson?
30:59Samson?
31:00Would anybody know Samson Ricketts?
31:02No.
31:03I feel this, this man would have, um, gone mad.
31:10Like, mentally ill.
31:13As Ian puts a name to the spirit he is sensing,
31:16the whole group start to feel a change in the atmosphere.
31:21How are you feeling, guys?
31:23Anybody else that help?
31:25Do you feel odd?
31:27Mm-hmm.
31:28Still getting warmer.
31:29OK.
31:30Bruce?
31:31Yeah?
31:32You OK now?
31:35I feel very sick.
31:36Mm.
31:37I'm terribly sick.
31:39Yeah, I do.
31:39There's just an uneasiness.
31:41Yeah, it's terribly...
31:42I keep getting this sweet taste up into my mouth.
31:44Yeah.
31:45I just...
31:46I can't explain it.
31:48It's an incredibly sad presence.
31:51Mm-hmm.
31:52And out of everything in the rest of the house,
31:54this is the one place that really needs cleansing.
31:56Yeah.
31:57Because I think what was done to him was unforgivable.
32:01He's very angry with us being here, actually.
32:03It's almost like he feels we're ridiculing him.
32:06Yeah, yeah.
32:07He doesn't like it.
32:08And I don't think we should stay up here too long.
32:12He's just...
32:13He's just watching us and shouting and saying,
32:17we're laughing at him.
32:18That's what the crowd is doing, we're laughing at him.
32:23He's saying, I need help.
32:27But he's just...
32:28The village has just gone against him.
32:30He's just gone mad.
32:34Do you feel comfortable in here, Toya?
32:36When I come in here, I talk to the presence.
32:40Yes.
32:40Because it's a very powerful one.
32:42Mm-hmm.
32:43And it pushes, it pushes you.
32:44Mm-hmm.
32:46It's not a place I'd want to spend a lot of time up here,
32:49but I just feel an immense responsibility because
32:53in a modern world, we could do something to put him to peace.
32:56Yes.
32:58But do I feel the anger now?
33:00No, I just feel an incredible sense of loss and sadness.
33:03Shall we do that?
33:04Do you want to put...
33:04I would love to.
33:05It's compassion, it's compassion, it's compassion.
33:06Yeah, it's compassion.
33:07Shall we do that?
33:08Yeah.
33:08And it needs release.
33:09Are you happy for us to do that?
33:10Do it, do it, do it.
33:12If we all hold hands in a circle...
33:16Are you okay?
33:16Mm-hmm.
33:17Yeah.
33:18So just take deep breaths.
33:18Really, really sick.
33:19Really, really sick.
33:20Okay, if we just close our eyes for a split second.
33:22We ask our guides, inspirers and loved ones to step forward
33:26to give us love, light and protection.
33:28I ask for the brightest light to step forward
33:31and circle each and every one of us within this seance.
33:35He's got my arm.
33:36Okay.
33:37Are you all right with that?
33:38Yes, fine.
33:39He's just really gripping.
33:40Sorry.
33:42What happened then?
33:43I don't know.
33:44He's really gripping.
33:45I wasn't with you.
33:46I wasn't with you.
33:47There was a trap.
33:48Okay.
33:48It's a trap.
33:49It's all right.
33:49Half floor.
33:52It's okay.
33:52It's a trap.
33:53Right.
33:54Or a hole.
33:55So you went to a trap door?
33:56Well, I don't know.
33:57I felt myself falling and I wasn't...
33:59I wasn't...
34:02Sorry, guys.
34:02I wasn't here.
34:05I wasn't here.
34:06I wasn't here for a split second.
34:08Sorry.
34:08It's all right.
34:09Well, I just closed my eyes and that was it.
34:13Okay.
34:13That was...
34:14Okay.
34:17We asked for that bright light to step forward and circle each and every one of us here.
34:25Samuel, we're asking you to step forward where we can help you.
34:30Are you okay?
34:32You okay, Mark?
34:32Mark.
34:33Mark, just let him talk, Mark, if he wants to talk.
34:35Just...
34:36If it's your own thought, if it's your own thoughts, just speak out.
34:48Deep breaths, Mark.
34:49Deep breaths.
34:50So, okay, Mark, really deep breaths, strong, deep breaths.
34:59Just breathe with it.
35:01Breathe with it.
35:03Don't let him fight you.
35:04Just breathe with it and speak.
35:06Step forward, friend.
35:12Step forward from Mark and speak.
35:13No.
35:14No.
35:15Okay, breathe with it, Mark.
35:20Still hear my voice.
35:21It's okay.
35:25Everyone stay strong.
35:28What's he want to say, Mark?
35:31Nothing.
35:33No.
35:40It's okay, Ty, you keep asking the questions because it's your house, Emily.
35:44Mark, he's saying don't do it.
35:48Don't do what?
35:49I don't know.
35:50He's not here now.
35:51It's not...
35:52It's not in me now.
35:53He's not in my head.
35:56I wouldn't let him come through me.
35:57Can we not tell him he's safe now?
36:00Yes, we can do it now.
36:02Samuel, we know you're here.
36:04We can help each and every one of us have sensed you around us.
36:08And we ask of you to stay within this circle.
36:10We ask of you to take the rope from around your neck and stand up strong.
36:15As the people and the laughter stops.
36:18And as you look again, you see a strong, bright light.
36:24I want you to walk forward towards that light.
36:27Your friends, your loved ones, your ancestors will be there to greet you on the other side.
36:34That doorway is now open for you to step forward.
36:40OK, that was great.
36:44OK, everyone can drop hands.
36:46Ian feels the spirit leave.
36:50It's the only one that Toya wanted to release.
36:53And they all felt the tension of its presence and the relief when it went.
36:57It really does affect you physically.
37:00I know it was definitely affecting Mark because you were standing next to me.
37:04I was holding your hand and my hand was going like this because you were shaking so much.
37:08I could feel him with me or inside and I was trying to talk but I just couldn't.
37:15I felt like my tongue was swollen right in the back of my throat.
37:18He was in a situation he could not talk his way out of.
37:21And I think he could think it, he could think this is wrong but he couldn't articulate it.
37:26I was trying to say don't do this to me but I just couldn't get the words out at all.
37:31My legs just were gone.
37:32I just didn't have any legs.
37:33I felt like I'd actually gone through the floor.
37:37You know, I felt like the floor wasn't there all of a sudden.
37:39If it was only the girls either side of me, it would have stopped me, you know,
37:42literally being ended up on the floor.
37:44Hopefully we've let that lad go to a better world this time.
37:54The end of a long night then.
37:56One week later, a revisit finds Toya in a positive frame of mind.
38:02When Ian and all my friends left after the seance, part of me felt well, thanks mates.
38:08You know, it's one in the morning and I'm here on my own.
38:11But funny enough, it was okay.
38:13The house was very peaceful.
38:15It was very warm, which was a new thing because normally that house is quite cold.
38:21And after the group left, Toya made some interesting connections,
38:24which she feels backs up a lot of what happened during that night.
38:28Most of the people I've talked to in the town have always known that there has been a suicide
38:32in that attic.
38:34My husband was forever telling me that I was paranoid because I've always talked about a fear
38:39of a noose around my neck.
38:41And he said, why do you go on about this?
38:43What's the problem?
38:44You know, this is silly.
38:45You're being hysterical.
38:47After Ian left, a historian in the town contacted me and said that someone committed suicide
38:54up there by hanging themselves.
38:58I've since talked to my husband and he said he won't go up in the attic.
39:03And what of the children that Rula sensed in the basement?
39:08Are you okay?
39:09There's something terribly sad happening here.
39:12Sorry, I'm sorry.
39:13I don't need to do with children.
39:15Because children are dead.
39:16The cellar has a lot of presence.
39:20But that's because that cellar is the oldest part of the house.
39:23It's had centuries and centuries and generations of people move through it.
39:28But when Rula put her hand on the wall and said, I see naked children and they're suffering,
39:33I thought, oh, that's rubbish.
39:35Nothing bad has happened in this cellar.
39:38But when Ian left the house the next day, a woman from the town came to me and said,
39:44did you know that during the plague, the townspeople put the children in the cellars,
39:52thinking they wouldn't catch the plague?
39:55So, of course, if children were down there and adults were dying from the plague,
40:00it's highly likely that some got left there and couldn't cope.
40:05The first thing I did was phone Rula and told her she was right.
40:10Because Rula needed some affirmation as to why she felt as badly as she did.
40:16And she took days to recover from that.
40:18And I wanted her to know that it was her sensitivity that brought the story to her,
40:23not her imagination.
40:25And she says it's changed her life.
40:27A life-affirming result for Rula then.
40:30And Toya has no reservations about letting Ian
40:33remove only one spirit from the attic.
40:38I'd say that there's still a bit of activity going on.
40:42But after the seance, the house was very quiet.
40:45The doors didn't open into the bedroom.
40:48The usual footsteps around the bed didn't happen.
40:51And funny enough, I wasn't very paranoid about it either.
40:54I felt quite peaceful.
40:56So it was okay.
41:03All that happened,
