Negation/Reception

This project is inspired by the proliferation of imagery in our culture. In recent years, new technologies including mobile phones, laptops, and wireless Internet connections have allowed us to distribute and consume larger amounts of imagery like never before. In order to draw attention to the creation, distribution, and consumption of imagery, I have created silent videos that employ the color black. Black disrupts the illusionistic quality of the computer or mobile phone screen. Additionally, black together with the glass in the screen renders the screen reflective and mirror-like. The mirror-like videos become receptors for the shadows and light changes occurring in the proximity of the computer or mobile phone. Ambient noise also becomes part of the viewing experience for the duration of each video. For optimum viewing, play the videos in full screen mode.
