Srinagar City in Indian Kashmir wore a deserted look on Thursday, as paramilitary forces, along with Indian army personnel, were on guard.

Paramilitary troops of the Central Reserve Police Force patrolled the streets of Srinagar as most markets were closed.

"The imposed curfew was necessary in such a situation and is a good step towards putting an end to the damages done. We hope that in another day or two, the situation will improve."

The curfew hopes to stop demonstrations over the recent killing of protesters.

The curfew ended on Tuesday but was reinstated again after a stray bullet hit a woman that day, sparking off a wild protest from residents.

Authorities also closed schools and colleges after separatists appealed to students to hold anti-India protests.

The deaths of at least 14 people, mostly protestors, in the last three weeks, have triggered the biggest anti-India demonstrations in two years across the Muslim-majority Kashmir valley.
