“Syed Ali Shah Geelani has given a call for shutdown after two kids were killed in Sopore Chalo rally. One was a 9-year-old boy. Because of this disturbance the call has been given.”

Several separatist leaders have been placed under house arrest.

In parts of Srinagar, shops, public transport, banks and educational institutions also remained closed.

Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed to the towns of Sopore and Baramulla.

Tensions in the Kashmir valley have been escalating for some time now, as there have been frequent protests and shutdown calls given by the separatists against alleged human rights violations.

Security fired tear gas shells to disperse protesters on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday.
