Jay Hart's Fatal Crash @ Long Beach 2021 (Aftermath)

Powerboat racer John Hart, mostly known as "Jay" Hart, 37-year-old, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, died on Sunday, 08 August 2021, while racing in the Sprint National Championships at Long Beach Marine Stadium, California.

The crash happened shortly before 13h00, during the K class race on the last day of the Southern California Speedboat Club event. Two boats were side by side going around 110 mi/h (177 Km/h) when they glanced off each other after hitting a depression in the choppy water and Jay Hart's craft flipped multiple times. The driver was flung from his open-cockpit vessel and hit the water, suffering multiple injuries. The driver of the other boat, Duff Daily of Miami, Florida, was not injured.

The emergency crews pulled Jay Hart from the water and rushed him to a local trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.

Jay Hart came from a boat-racing family from Salt Lake City, Utah, who settled near Lake Havasu, a prime venue for the sport. His father was a boat racer as well as Jay and his brother Fred, who mainly competed in drag boat racing.

The Sprint Nationals first took place in 1946 at Long Beach Marine Stadium, which was built for rowing events in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics.
