On Green Dolphin Street – Benny Carter 1991
This tune was a special favorite of many editions of Miles Davis's bands. On of the best performances with Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb was on Miles' album on Columbia "Miles '58".
A number of years later in 1991 in Vienna, Austria a combination of American all stars under the guidance of alto saxophonist Benny Carter perform this great tune again. It is just wonderful to see how comfortably, and with what a pleasure to listen to these giants go through this tune and with such ease.
Next to Benny we see and hear Harry Sweets Edison on trumpet and Al Grey on trombone supported by Marion McPartland on piano, Milt Hinton on bass and Louie Bellson on the big double bass-drum drum set.
