The Chant - Dutch Swing College 1976

Peter Schilperoort and his Dutch Swing College play their arrangement of a composition by Jelly Roll Morton. Morton recorded this in 1926.
A rather difficult tune is not heard that often by the revival bands.
I’m proud to say that I recorded this tune in 1976 with our Climax Jazz Band as well. I remember it to be a tough piece.
Just now, more than 30 years later I hear it for the first time by the Dutch Swing College. I really enjoy the way they have worked in their arrangement. Most bands, including ours, have been following the Morton arrangement, but the DSC gave it a new twist. Very impressive.
Peter on soprano sax, Bob Kaper clarinet, Bert de Kort cornet, Dick Kaart trombone, Jaap van Kempen banjo, Henk Bosch vn Drakesteyn bass and Huub Janssen drums. That same year the band came to Toronto where we played a number of concerts with our two bands together. Wonderful memories!
