St Louis Blues - Dutch Swing College 1989
Recorded at a jazz festival in Finland The Dutch Swing College Band plays their version of W.C. Handy’s St Louis Blues.
Peter Schilperoort was not playing in these sessions. He had resigned as leader and probably found a trip to Finland too tiring.
The band now under leadership of reedplayer Bob Kaper was at its height of musical skills and talent. Unfortunately both cornettist Sytze van Duin as well as trombonist Bert Buren left the band within a few years. Drummer Huub Janssen is still playing here but a new bassist Adrie Braat, has joined the group. Fred McMurray plays piano.
Every time Sytze van Duin plays that cornet I see and hear something new and fascinating. Unbelievable skill and perception.
The last I heard is that today he still plays once in a while but generally is a medical doctor and lives on one of the “Wadden” Islands north of the Netherlands
