A military police building is destroyed in Yemen.

State news reports that a suicide car bomber killed at least 10 Yemeni soldiers and a civilian in the city of Mukallah.

The blast appears to be a revenge attack by al Qaeda.

The Yemeni army is currently trying to crush Islamist insurgents in the south.

In the capital Sanaa, security officials are on high alert.

Soldiers are deployed on the streets to search cars for possible weapons.

One resident is pleased with their efforts.

"We tell the army to be alert and that we are standing by them against al-Qaeda and terrorism."

The bombing and the heightened security come amid increased attacks in recent days.

In another incident Sunday, three militants were killed after they tried to attack a security checkpoint in the capital.
