When completed, the large, intricate nests commonly allow for up to 8 occupants but depending on size can accommodate even 30 people. Fann usually chooses Eucalyptus branches for his natural structures due to the strength and flexibility of the wood.
He bends the pieces and adds counter sunk screws to make the nest stable. He then builds a separate base that withstands a weight up to 2,000 pounds.
The nest and base are lifted into place by a crane and bolted together.
Available through the arts and culture center known as Big Sur Spirit Garden, buyers can expect to shell out anywhere from $4,000 to $20,000.
