Arguments just beginning before the supreme court on DOMA, the defence of marriage act signed into law in 1996. The hearing, expected to last 2 hours, takes on whether of not the federal government can refuse to recognize legally state sanctioned marriage between same sex couples. Vitriolic protests swelled not far from the steps of the Supreme Court Tuesday as people on both sides of the issue set up camp to make their positions known.
