Button Thief Keeps Targeting a Thrift Shop

It is amazing what oddities attract thieves these days.

A thrift shop in West Nashville is the desired spot for one thieving culprit, who steals…of all things, buttons.

That’s right, the culprit is reportedly cutting buttons with rhinestone or pearl accents from dresses and suit jackets. For whatever reason, the thread is not cut, but the suspect opts to slice a hole in the garment itself to snatch the desired button.

These incidents have been occurring at the shop for several years.

Employees have a sign posted on the window which reads “Button thief is destroying lovely clothes you might have bought. If discovered, we will have her arrested. Please help us find her.” A $20 gift certificate is being offered as a reward for information.

In another bizarre report from last year, shoe thieves in New York began stealing sneakers one at a time from in store displays. The thieves figured out a way to steal the display shoes from different stores to create a pair.

Store owners took preventative measures by keeping their display shoes locked in a case.
