Syrian town decimated by conflict

This is what has become of Maaret al-Numan, a Syrian town in the northern Idlib governorate.

This video, filmed on Sunday, shows the extent of the damage the town has suffered after attacks by President Bashar al-Assad's forces.

Maaret al-Numan is completely destroyed says this local resident.

80 percent of the town is destroyed, and 95 percent of its residents have gone, he says.

The rebel Free Syrian Army has been attempting to free the town from the grips of government forces.

Damascus says it is fighting Islamist "terrorists" trying to topple the president.

The 21 month old conflict has killed 44,000 people..
