The body of the gang rape victim who died from her injuries in Singapore will be returned to India Saturday.

Family members of the 23-year-old woman will accompany the body on a charted flight to their native India.

The woman, a medical student, was brutally gang-raped two weeks ago while on a moving bus in Delhi.

Doctors decided to move her to Singapore for further treatment, but she died from her injuries in early morning.

Security is tight in parts of the Indian capital as government officials urge the public to remain calm.

Massive and sometimes violent demonstrations have erupted in the past weeks with protesters calling for swift action against the suspects and better protection for women.

The incident has received major national and international attention. And although the woman has not been identified, some Indian media have called her "Amanat", an Urdu word meaning "treasure".
