Artist Creates Chandeliers From Bicycle Parts

An artists uses recycled bicycle parts to create chandeliers.

One woman has taken the ‘use and reuse’ mantra to heart and created beautiful works of art for households. Carolina,or Caro, a Los Angeles Based designer has released an edition called ‘The Connect series’, which consists of chandeliers that are constructed from recycled bicycle parts.

Caro states “This series addresses class codes, power dynamics, reclaimed agency, and ecological responsibility. The traditional chandelier is seen as a bourgeois commodity, a cachet of affluence, excess, and as such power. The recycled bicycle parts become a representation of the dismissed, invisible, and powerless, but are also an affirmation of self-propelled movement. The bicycle chandelier thereby creates a new third meaning of reclaimed agency.”

She has established her own shop on etsy.com, showcasing the range of chandeliers. While all of the silhouettes vary, the concept remains very similar.

The bicycle chains serve as the dangling décor, while the wheels outwardly surround the chains, bringing definition and separation to the pieces.
