U.S. President Bush believes the economic damage will be "painful and lasting'' if Congress doesn't approve a 700 billion dollar bailout bill. He made this statement in a televised address to the nation. But the country's legislators will not be able to consider any alternatives to the failed plan until Thursday. They're having days off because of a Jewish holiday.
