It’s hard to imagine what goes on in the mind of a thief.

26-year-old, Phillip Beach, from Austin was arrested while attempting to commit a theft. A harbor master in Seabrook contacted police after he become suspicious, believing someone was trying to steal a sailboat.

Police arrived and saw Beach connected to the 44-foot boat, named ‘the Flying Pearl’.

Beach was trying to tow the boat using his body as he swam through the water. Police spent an hour trying to coerce Beach to come out of the water and leave the 12 ton sailboat alone.

The owner of ‘the Flying Pearl’ also owns Captain Kidd, a charter boat that resembles a pirate ship.

He joked - “We’re the pirates. We’re the ones who are supposed to be doing all the stealing and pillaging and plundering and everything”.

Another report from several years ago involved a stolen boat and a not-so-savvy criminal. A Hamden man reportedly stole a 32-foot sailboat, valued at $175,000. Law enforcement officers easily spotted him on a major route, towing the boat. During the police chase, the boat flipped from the trailer.
