Parliamentary elections under way in Algeria

Voting has begun across Algeria in the country's parliamentary elections, which authorities have pledged will be the freest ever.

More than 48,000 polling stations in the North African country opened on Thursday at 8:00 am (0700 GMT), many under tight police surveillance.
