Greece cracks down on illegal immigrants

Authorities in Greece have implemented tougher border controls to appease the national rise in racist sentiment. In the face of looming austerity cuts, frustrated voters invested their hopes in the right-wing extremist political Golden dawn party. Police recently announced plans to deport up to 1,500 undocumented immigrants. The stern enforcement is a response to the recent election where Conservative politicians criticized the government for its inaction on illegal migrant communities. Caught between a rock and a hard place, those that have already made it into the country are struggling to survive. In the last six months, human rights groups say at least 500 migrants have been attacked. At least 20 were stabbings victims of stabbings. Jackie Rowland has more from Athens
