STORY: Australian athletes got a royal surprise during their visit to the Team GB House at the Olympic Park on Friday, where they encountered the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who dropped in to thank the volunteers for their efforts at the London Games.
Prince William and Kate Middleton greeted the Australian team members and posed for photographs shortly before Britain got a gold and set a new world record in cycling men's team pursuit.
It is reported that the royal couple had personally requested the visit in order to give their thanks to the army of Olympic volunteers.
The gathering was attended by members of the military, 'Games Maker' volunteers and a range of other volunteers working with Team GB, representing the thousands working at London 2012.
