Norway marks 100th anniversary of South Pole trek

In December 1911, the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and four members of his team were the first to arrive at the southernmost tip of the globe.
They planted a Norwegian flag at the pole to mark their epic victory over British adventurer Robert Scott.

On Wednesday, Norway's prime minister and several hundred scientists and adventurers gathered at the South Pole to celebrate the 100-year-old conquest.

Al Jazeera's Bhanu Bhatnagar reports.
