8-Year-Old Pilot's Son Helps in Rescue - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

An airplane carrying a marriage proposal written on a sky banner, went down off the coast of Rhode Island. Coast Guard search and rescue parties from the area were deployed, but no one was sure where the plane had gone down. New England Air Control reported the radio transmission to the coast guard between the pilot and his eight year old son about ten minutes after the plane had taken off saying that it had lost power and he was going to have to do an emergency landing. The plane tried to land in Block Island Sound, but the landing gear collapsed under the airplane. The pilot was rescued by a local boater and handed over to the Coast Guard, who reported that the pilot was unharmed. The Coast Guard also complimented the pilot's 8-year-old son on his composed demeanor. They had contacted him in initial rescue stages and he had validated the distress call.
The name of he pilot has not been released yet. He was fortunate to be rescued with the help of his son and the civilian boater.
