Many southern Sudanese who fled the region during the decades-long civil war are returning to the south to make their vote count in next year's referendum.

Some politicians are hoping the homecomers will play a key role in swinging the vote towards South Sudan's independence.

But, as Al Jazeera's Haru Mustasa explains from the regional capital, Juba, for many it has been a tough homecoming.
