Joan Armatrading didn't want to be a performer

61-year-old Joan Armatrading has been active as a singer-songwriter for forty years. In 1972, when she made her first album Whatever's For Us, the British artist was still reluctant to go on stage. "It was never in my head to be a performer", she says.
