Billionaires Bill Gates and Larry Ellison were reportedly in a bidding war over the sale of the remote Hawaiian island of Lanai from fellow billionaire David Murdock. Ellison, CEO of Oracle, won for an estimated $600 million. Murdock wanted to make sure Lanai's small population, as well as its natural beauty, would be respected and preserved.
