Rebels vow to fight on in Syria

Days after abandoning a U.N.-backed ceasefire agreement, defiant rebels in north Syria vow to continue fighting until they topple Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

Video obtained by Reuters from Idlib province shows rebels in training.

"I left university because of the arrests and the practices of the thugs and joined the free army to help them treat the wounded with my three years of medical experience,"

Rebels in northern Syria have engaged in fierce fighting with government forces in an effort to gain control over the region bordering Turkey.

"I was a major sergeant before I defected. After witnessing tyranny of Assad's gang, I wanted to defend this country until the last drop of my blood, God willing."

A Syrian opposition watchdog said at least 80 Syrian troops were killed in a surge of attacks over the weekend.
