The Shanghai World Expo - an exposition that has cost China around $45bn - is set to open in less than a month.

The event aims to signify Shanghai's growing status as a major economic and cultural centre in the world.

It is expected to attract the highest number of visitors in the history of the world's fairs.

It has been reported that more than 190 countries and dozens of international organisations have registered to take part in the event. China expects to receive many foreign leaders and millions of people from across the world.

Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports from Shanghai.
